If you've forgotten your parental control password on your PlayStation 2, or find that the second-hand console you bought can't be used to play movies, you may be confused. Fortunately, you can easily change or disable these passwords. Follow this guide to find out how.

Method 1 of 2: Reset Code
Step 1. Insert the forbidden DVD
After the DVD is playing, the PS2 will ask you to change the parental control settings for watching movies. Select Yes. The PS2 will then ask for the password. Press the Select button near the center of the controller.
Step 2. Remove password
By pressing Select, the password reset process will begin. The PS2 will ask you to enter your password to continue. Enter "7444", then select OK.
Step 3. Enter a new easy-to-remember password, such as 0000, so you can watch movies easily
The PS2 will confirm the password change, and return you to the DVD menu. To disable parental controls, read the next step.
Method 2 of 2: Disabling Code
Step 1. Insert the DVD movie
After the DVD is playing, press the Select button on the controller. Select the Stop icon in the menu that appears, then click the X button. The menu will close, and the movie will stop. Press Select and Stop again. The button will change color to gray.
Step 2. Click the Setup icon, which looks like a toolbox
Use the right directional key to enter the Custom Setup screen. Press the down directional button on the controller to reach the Parental Control Settings menu. selected. Press the right directional button to enter the menu
Step 3. Enter the password you just entered in the previous step
Step 4. Select the protection level
Swipe up the menu until you find the Level option. You can disable parental controls by sliding the meter up, past the number 8. Press Select several times until the entire menu closes.
