This wikiHow teaches you how to change the vertical or horizontal orientation of a video. You can rotate videos by downloading and using the Movie Maker app on Windows computers, Quicktime on Mac computers, and free apps for iPhone or Android phones.

Method 1 of 4: Via Windows Computer
Step 1. Download and install Windows Movie Maker
Although it is no longer included in the Windows operating system package since 2012, you can still download and install Windows Movie Maker on Windows 10 by visiting a third-party site and downloading the program from that site.
You can rotate videos using VLC Media Player, but the audio will be removed from the rotated video file
Step 2. Open Windows Movie Maker
This app icon looks like a roll of film. After that, the project view segment will open in the Movie Maker window.
Step 3. Click Add videos and photos
It's in the upper-left corner of the window, in the "Add" section. After that, a new window will be displayed.
Step 4. Select the video you want to rotate
Go to the folder containing the video you want to rotate, then click the video.
Step 5. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. After that, the video will open in the Movie Maker window.
Step 6. Rotate the video
Click the button " Rotate left " or " Rotate right ” in the " Editing " section of the toolbar. After that, the video will rotate according to the selected option.
- You may need to click the button more than once to get the video orientation right.
- Sometimes, the video will rotate to the right after saving when you click the “ Rotate left ” (and vice versa for button “ Rotate right ”).
Step 7. Click File
It's in the upper-left corner of the window. After that, the menu will be displayed.
Step 8. Select Save movie
It's in the middle of the menu. Once clicked, a pop-out window will be displayed.
Step 9. Click Recommended for this project
It's at the top of the pop-out window.
Step 10. Enter a title
Type in the title of the desired movie/video.
Step 11. Click Save
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. After that, the video will be saved with the specified name/title. When played through any playback program, the video will rotate to your desired orientation.
Method 2 of 4: Via Mac Computer
Step 1. Open Spotlight
Click the magnifying glass icon in the upper-right corner of your computer screen. After that, a search bar will be displayed.
Step 2. Type in quicktime
After that, the computer will search for the QuickTime application.
Step 3. Double-click QuickTime
This selection is shown as the top Spotlight search result. After that, the QuickTime video player window will open.
Step 4. Click File
It's in the upper-left corner of the screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 5. Click Open File…
It's at the top of the drop-down menu.
Step 6. Select videos
Click the video you want to rotate.
You may need to visit the folder containing the video by clicking the appropriate folder on the left side of the window
Step 7. Click Open
It's in the lower-right corner of the window. After that, the video will open in the QuickTime Player window.
Step 8. Click Edit
This menu option is at the top of the screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 9. Click the Rotate option
You can find several rotation options (“ Rotate ”) in the drop-down menu. Click an option that you want to apply to the video.
Step 10. Save the rotated video
To save it:
- Click the menu option again File ”.
- Choose " Export ”.
- Choose a video quality (eg. 1080p ”).
- Add a file name and select a save location.
- Click " Save ”.
Method 3 of 4: Via iPhone
Step 1. Download the Rotate & Flip Video app
To download it:

Open App Store ”
- Touch " Search ”.
- Touch the search bar.
- Type in rotate & flip video.
- Touch " Search ”.
- Touch the button “ GET ” to the right of the " Rotate & Flip Video " heading.
- Enter Touch ID or type in your Apple ID email address, and tap the “ Install ”.
Step 2. Open Rotate & Flip Video
Touch the button “ OPEN ” in the App Store window, or tap the Rotate & Flip Video app icon.
Step 3. Touch the video camera icon
This icon is in the center of the screen. After that, a pop-out menu will appear at the bottom of the screen.
Step 4. Touch Videos
This option is in the pop-up menu.
Step 5. Touch OK if prompted
With this option, Rotate & Flip Video can access videos stored on iPhone.
Step 6. Select the video album
Touch the album containing the video you want to rotate.
If you don't know which album to select, touch “ Camera Roll ”.
Step 7. Select the video
Touch the video you want to edit.
Step 8. Touch Select
It's in the lower-right corner of the screen. After that, the video will open in the main window.
Step 9. Rotate your video
Touch the option “ 90 ” until the video gets the desired orientation.
Step 10. Touch Save
It's at the bottom of the screen. After that, the rotated video will be saved to the “Camera Roll” folder on the phone.
After seeing the pop-up ad window, you can exit the Rotate & Flip Video app
Method 4 of 4: Via Android Phone
Step 1. Download the Rotate Video FX app
To download it:

Open Google Play Store ”
- Touch the search bar.
- Type in rotate video fx.
- Touch " Rotate Video FX ” in the list of search results.
- Touch the button “ INSTALL ”.
- Touch " ACCEPT ”.
Step 2. Open Rotate Video FX
Touch the button “ OPEN ” in the Google Play Store window, or touch the Rotate Video FX app icon.
Step 3. Touch START ROTATE
This option is on the right side of the screen.
Step 4. Touch Choose movie when prompted
After that, the Android device's “camera roll” folder will be opened.
Step 5. Select videos
Touch the video you want to rotate.
Step 6. Close ads if necessary
After selecting a video, you may need to touch the “ X" or " CLOSE ” on the ad before continuing.
Step 7. Rotate the video
Tap one of the arrow icons in the lower-left or lower-right corner of the screen to rotate the video 90 degrees to the left or right.
If you want to rotate the video by 180 degrees, simply double-tap one of the icons
Step 8. Touch START
It's at the bottom of the screen.
Step 9. Choose a conversion speed
Touch Fast method ” to quickly rotate the video, or touch “ Normal method ” to ensure the video is displayed in the correct orientation in all supported media player applications.
Step 10. Wait for the conversion process to complete
If it starts playing, the video has been successfully rotated and saved to the phone's "camera roll" folder.
