This wikiHow teaches you how to play two player on the Nintendo Switch. You can play two players on the Nintendo Switch using a side-swimming joy-con controller, or one player using a joy-con controller, and the other using a pro-controller stick.
Step

Step 1. Remove the joy-con controller
The trick, grab your Nintendo Switch and flip it over. Press and hold the round button on the back of the joy-con controller next to the ZL and ZR buttons. Slide the joy-con to release it. Do the same for the joy-con controller on the other side.

Step 2. Attach the joy-con strap
The strap is actually a thin blade that has two buttons and a strap to wrap around the wrist. The joy-con strap has a "+" or "-" symbol on it. Align with the "+" and "-" buttons on the joy-con controller. Slide the opening under the strap to the top end of the track on the side of the joy-con controller until they are securely in place.
- To release the joy-con strap, pull on the gray label at the bottom of the strap and slide it up to release it.
- If one player uses a pro-controller stick, the other player can attach both joy-cons to the holder so that the two joy-cons can become one controller.

Step 3. Select the joy-con icon
The joy-con-like icon on the home screen is the controller settings menu. This is where you can set up a controller for two players.
You can select an option on the Nintendo Switch by tapping it on the screen, or searching for it using your controller and pressing "A"

Step 4. Select Change Grip/Order
This is the first option in the controller settings menu.

Step 5. Press R+L on both controllers
If you are using the joy-con for two-player play, rotate the joy-con sideways with the analog stick to the left. Press the two buttons (R & L) on the top of the joy-con strap, press R & L on the two controllers you want to use.

Step 6. Choose a two player game
There are a variety of games for two players to play on the Nintendo Switch. You can buy a digital version of the game through the Nintendo eShop, or a physical version at a game store. Check the information on the back, or on the Nintendo eShop information page to see how many players the game supports.

Step 7. Choose two player mode
When you are at the title screen of the game, select the multiplayer/two player option to play with two players.
