If you need a drink of encouragement, but the weather is too hot for a cup of coffee, try having an iced coffee! To make delicious iced coffee, first brew ground coffee in cold water. Strain this coffee concentrate and pour it over ice. Add cold water or milk, then enjoy immediately. You can also experiment with the taste and texture of the drink. For example, you can make vanilla iced coffee or frappe iced coffee.
Ingredients
- 30 g coarse ground coffee
- 350 ml cold water (better if it has been filtered)
- Whole milk or cream milk (for serving)
- Ice
For 1 cup
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Your Own Iced Coffee at Home
Step 1. Stir the coffee with cold water in a French press
Prepare a French press and put 30 grams of coarsely ground coffee into it. Pour 350 ml of cold water and use a spoon to stir it carefully.
- Do not immediately push the pressure on the appliance as ground coffee takes more time to interact with the water.
- If you don't have a French press, mix the coffee and water in a jar, container, or teapot.
Step 2. Refrigerate the French press overnight
Since you cannot put the appliance with the lid in the refrigerator, cover the top of the appliance with plastic wrap or wax paper. Place the appliance in the refrigerator and let the coffee brew for 12 hours or overnight.
For a stronger taste, brew the tea for up to 24 hours
Tips:
If you want to make a large amount of coffee, double the amount of ground coffee and water used. After that, put the two ingredients into the larger French press.
Step 3. Push the tool pusher
Remove the French press from the refrigerator and remove the plastic wrap or wax paper. Place the cap on the top of the appliance and slowly push the pusher so that the ground coffee drops down.
Step 4. Pour the coffee into a filter to remove its natural oils
For a more “clean” taste, prepare a mesh strainer to filter the coffee and place the strainer over the measuring jug. Slowly pour the cold coffee into the filter and discard or compost any coffee grounds that remain in the appliance.
- If you're making coffee in a container or jar, you'll need a filter to remove the pulp.
- If you don't mind the natural oil taste of the coffee, you don't need to filter the coffee.
Step 5. Pour cold coffee over ice and mix with milk or water
Prepare a tall glass filled with ice and pour enough cold coffee to make the glass half full. After that, fill half the volume of the remaining glass with cold water or milk. Stir the drink to mix the coffee and other ingredients, then enjoy before the ice melts.
Store the remaining coffee concentrate in an airtight container for up to 1 week
Method 2 of 2: Trying Variations of Iced Coffee
Step 1. Cool the hot coffee if you don't want to brew the coffee with cold water
If you don't have much time to brew coffee with cold water, make a cup or a pot of hot coffee. Use your preferred brewing method, then place the coffee in the refrigerator to cool. After that, pour the coffee into a glass that already contains ice and serve.
For example, you can make coffee using a dripper, the pour-over method, or using a French press
Step 2. Brew instant coffee grounds and pour them into a glass filled with ice for a quick option
This method is another quick way to make iced coffee. Mix 1 tablespoon of instant coffee with 2 tablespoons of hot water in a tall glass. Fill a glass with ice and pour 240 ml of cold water. Mix all the ingredients with a spoon and enjoy the coffee before the ice melts.
For a softer iced coffee, use cold milk instead of water
Step 3. Use frozen coffee
To keep your iced coffee from getting runny as it melts, freeze it before you make your iced coffee. Pour cold coffee into ice molds and freeze until solid.
With this method, you can also use up any leftover coffee so you don't have to throw it away
Step 4. Add your favorite syrup for added flavour
Buy or make your own caramel, vanilla, or chocolate syrup. For regular sweetness, make sugar syrup or simple syrup. After that, add as much syrup as desired. You can experiment with flavor combinations, such as chocolate caramel to create a unique iced coffee dish.
Refrigerate homemade syrup in an airtight container for 1-2 weeks
Coffee shop specialty syrup:
Mix 100 grams of sugar with 240 ml of water in a saucepan. Stir and heat the mixture over medium heat until the sugar dissolves. Allow the syrup to cool and add teaspoon of vanilla extract.
Step 5. Mix cold coffee with ice cream to make a creamy snack
Pour 240 ml of cold coffee and 60 ml of milk into a tall glass. Fill a glass with ice and add 1 large scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.
If you want, you don't need to add ice cubes and just add more ice cream
Step 6. Puree the iced coffee in a blender to make a frappe
Pour 240 ml of cold coffee into a blender and add 420 grams of ice cubes and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Place the lid on the blender jar and mix the ingredients until smooth. After that, pour the frappe into a glass and add the whipped cream on top before serving.
