If you wish you could change your appearance, you are not alone. Many people feel that way, especially young women. Maybe in reality you are already beautiful, but do not realize it. By learning to feel more comfortable with yourself and changing your appearance to suit your personality, you can become a completely different, beautiful person.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Taking Care of Yourself
Step 1. Drink enough water
Getting enough fluids can make you more focused and energized, and even help you lose weight. The Imperial system of units has a calculated way of measuring how much water you need each day, which is to divide your body weight in pounds by two, and the result is your fluid requirement in ounces.
For example, a woman weighing 150 pounds (68 kg) needs 75–150 ounces (2–4 liters) of water daily, depending on climate and activity level. The fluid needs of active women who live in hot climates are closer to 4 liters per day
Step 2. Eat healthy
Avoid excess sugar, salt, or processed foods. The daily diet should include:
- Proteins. Examples are fish, white meat, beans, and eggs.
- Healthy fats. For example, nuts (almonds are very healthy), vegetable oils (extra virgin olive oil is a popular choice), and fatty plant products, such as avocados.
- Whole carbohydrates, unprocessed: Includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and legumes.
- Vitamins and minerals. Available in supplement form and can be taken if you know that the daily diet does not provide all the vitamins and minerals needed.
Step 3. Listen to your body
Drink when thirsty and eat when hungry. Learning to read body cues may take some time if you get used to ignoring them, but once you start paying attention, you'll be able to stick to a healthy diet and possibly lose weight more easily.
- If you eat or drink something that causes a headache or you don't feel well, take notes and try to avoid that food or drink, especially if you always feel bad after eating it.
- Pay attention to what foods and drinks make you feel healthy. A diet consisting of lots of water and nutrients will help you feel healthier and happier. In addition, when you feel healthy and happy, you will also feel more beautiful.
Step 4. Exercise regularly
Aim to get at least 30 minutes of physical activity 3 to 5 days a week, or more if you want to lose weight.
- The most effective exercises in a limited time are those that work several muscle groups at once. For example, swimming, dancing, or cleaning the house on a weight scale.
- Another effective way to keep yourself fit and healthy is to go for a brisk 20 minute walk twice a day.
- Yoga is great for stress relief, as well as building and toning muscles. Make sure you combine yoga with cardio activities, such as walking, running, or swimming.
Step 5. Make sure the body is always hygienic
Wash and moisturize your face, and brush your teeth twice a day. Take a shower every day and wash your hair when it feels greasy (maybe every two days or so, depending on your hair type).
- If you have acne on your face and back, you should wash your hair more often because the oils from your hair can transfer to your face, neck, and back, causing breakouts.
- To keep your teeth healthy and strong, make sure you see your dentist every 6 months.
- A clean body will make you feel fresh and more attractive. Try to take care of yourself every day, including when you're not in the mood.
Step 6. Have a diary
Writing in a diary can relieve anxiety, stress, and depression. Keeping your thoughts and feelings in a diary can also help you analyze your problems and increase your confidence. Try to write 20 minutes every day.
Keep writing even if you have nothing to say. You can even start with the words you don't know what to write, and see how your writing develops from there. Usually something will come up, maybe even something you didn't expect
Step 7. Do meditation regularly
Meditation helps you enjoy the moment and understand your feelings. Scientifically, meditation has also been shown to change the structure of the brain, making you smarter and happier.
- There are many ways to meditate. The most popular way is to sit in a comfortable position with your eyes closed, and try to clear your mind.
- If a thought arises while meditating, imagine the thought going away, or acknowledge the thought as coming and mentally sweep it out of your mind. The goal is to focus on the present moment, and not be distracted by any thoughts.
- You don't need long meditation to start, start with 1 to 2 minutes. Ideally, you can increase the time to 10 to 15 minutes each day. If that's not possible, just do what you can.
Step 8. Be a positive person
Most of us have deep thoughts that say bad things, like why we're not good enough. You can fight these negative thoughts by learning to be grateful and replacing them with positive thoughts.
- A positive attitude is sometimes difficult to get used to. So, be patient as you learn to recognize negative thoughts and counter them with positive ones.
- The physical trick to feeling more positive is to stand with the correct posture, back straight with shoulders pulled back and chin lifted, then extend your arms as far as you can. Feel the power and positivity expand within you, and those feelings will be embedded.
Step 9. Smile
Studies show that people who look happier are more attractive to other people. In addition, research has shown that even if you don't feel happy, smiling can improve your mood.
If you're feeling down, try smiling for 30 seconds to get in a better mood
Step 10. Show a confident attitude
Building self-confidence is easier said than done, but it's important to work on it. With good self-esteem, you'll be healthier and happier, and that automatically makes you more attractive.
- One way to increase your self-esteem is to make a list of your strengths, accomplishments, and things you like about yourself. It may be very difficult at first. Or, maybe you only have one thing to write on each list and that too will have to be thought about for hours, but the list will get longer as your self-esteem increases.
- Fight negative voices from within. This relates to the formation of a positive attitude. Be aware when you think something negative, and counter it with positive thoughts. For example, when you think, “I'm fat” or “I'm ugly”, counter it with “My ass is nice” or “My eyes are beautiful”.
Step 11. Get enough sleep
Lack of sleep keeps your mind from functioning at its full capacity, and you will be lazy to eat healthy and exercise, and be less able to be positive and confident.
Adults need 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night, and teens need 9 to 10 hours
Part 2 of 4: Changing Hairstyles
Step 1. Cut and/or color hair
Trying out different cuts or coloring your hair will have a dramatic effect on your appearance. Think about what hair style and color will suit you best.
- Ask yourself, what do you want to show about yourself through your hair? Are you a sociable and risk-taking person? Maybe you are good with short, colored hair. Are you more down to earth and a bit hippie? Long hair in layers in a natural color may be more suitable.
- Look online or in magazines to see what hairstyles stand out to you.
Step 2. Determine the shape of the face
One important thing to consider when choosing a hairstyle is the shape of the face. There are several types of face shapes. One way to determine your face shape is to look in the mirror and outline your face with lipstick or an eye pencil.
- The oval face is oval in shape and balanced (slightly wider in the middle).
- Square faces are equally wide on the forehead, cheekbones, and jawline.
- The triangular face is wider below, with a strong jaw.
- A heart-shaped (or inverted triangle) face features a small chin and broad cheekbones.
- A round face is shaped like a circle.
- A diamond-shaped face features sharp angles and cheekbones that are wider than the forehead and jawline.
- A rectangular face is characterized by features that are wide from the forehead to the jaw so that they appear long.
Step 3. Decide what hairstyle will best suit your face shape
To show the maximum effect, choose a hairstyle based on the shape of the face.
- Oval faces go well with most hairstyles although the hair that falls past the shoulders makes this face shape look long.
- Square faces work best with hair that is longer than the jawline. In particular, avoid cuts that stop right at the jawline as this will make your face look more square. Also avoid cuts with sharp corners and lines such as thick bangs or bob cuts. Good choices are side bangs, wavy hair, and layered cuts that frame the face.
- A triangular face goes well with a short hairstyle that balances the large jaw by adding width to the top of the head. If you choose longer hair, make sure the ends extend beyond the jawline. Otherwise, your face will look very full underneath.
- A heart-shaped face would be beautiful with layered hair along the chin (a bob would be great). Avoid short haircuts and thick bangs as they will make your face heavy on top. Also avoid tight ponytails and don't brush straight hair without parting as that will further emphasize the small chin.
- Round faces are great with asymmetrical styles and layered cuts, which help balance the width of the face. Chin-length cuts and thick bangs can make your face look wider, as well as a midsection. However, a side part and side bangs would be great.
- A diamond-shaped face goes well with full hair on the sides, but not on top. In other words, avoid tall hairstyles. Bangs and layered cuts that frame the face will look beautiful. Avoid the middle.
- For a rectangular face, you need to divide the balance of the face. Avoid hairstyles that are too long. The bob style, layered cut, and bold bangs will perfectly suit this face shape.
Step 4. Consider coloring your hair
Different colors are a great way to add drama to a look. Before dyeing your hair, think about what color best matches your skin and eye tones.
- Your skin and eye color may match most hair colors, but not all shades of these colors may match. For example, a warm skin tone goes well with warm hair tones like strawberry red, but a pink or blue base color works better with a cooler, lighter red.
- Hair color that is closer to skin tone and eye color will result in a more natural appearance. Think blonde hair would suit blue eyes and pale or golden brown skin better.
- The stronger the contrast between your skin tone and eye color with your hair, the more dramatic your appearance will be. For example, pale skin with light red hair is a very prominent combination.
- If you're not sure what your basic skin tone is, try an online quiz to find out what hair color to suggest.
Step 5. Keep your hair healthy
Wash hair as often as needed with the appropriate shampoo and conditioner (for color, normal, oily, etc.). You may need to shampoo every two days or so depending on the quality of your hair. The drier your hair, the less it needs to be washed.
- If your hair is dry and damaged, do a deep conditioning treatment every week. You can do your own treatment at home by mixing olive oil and two egg yolks, avocado, mayonnaise, and conditioner. Leave it for a few hours (overnight is fine too).
- If you have dandruff or other problems, avoid homemade products. Instead, use a product specifically made to treat the condition. If your hair problem is severe enough, see a doctor or dermatologist.
Part 3 of 4: Makeup
Step 1. Know how to apply natural makeup
Natural makeup will highlight the original features of your face. Natural doesn't mean you have to wear just a little makeup. You can still use foundation, blush or bronzer, mascara, eye shadow, and lip color.
- Makeup can make skin look smoother with an even tone (foundation and concealer), longer eyelashes (mascara), higher cheekbones (blush, bronzer, or contour), and fuller lips (lip pencil and lipstick).
- For example, that very popular moist, shiny look on her face requires a lot of make-up.
- If you're not comfortable wearing makeup, but want a better skin look, try using a tinted moisturizer or sheer powder. Both can improve the overall appearance of the skin without feeling heavy or greasy.
Step 2. Use makeup to play with the eyes
You can use different colors of eyeliner and eye shadow to highlight your eyes. Here are makeup tips for different eye colors:
- Blue eyes can opt for naturally light colors, such as coral red and beige. Dark smokey makeup may drown out the beauty of the eyes. So, try it at home first before going out with the makeup.
- Gray or gray-blue eyes go well with dark and smokey colors, such as grays, blues, and silvers.
- Green eyes are very pretty with soft purples and sparkling browns.
- Hazel-green eyes look beautiful with metallic and pastel colors that accentuate the freckles on the eyes. Pink, soft copper, and gold blushes will look stunning with this eye color.
- Brown eyes go well with most eye makeup colors and styles. Natural colors like salmon and gold would be very pretty. For smokey makeup, you can add a little bit of black eye shadow in the crease of the eye.
- A popular eye makeup style is the smokey eye, which blends two or three colors on the eyelids to give the appearance a gradation, usually from dark to light, from the lids to the brows.
Step 3. Apply lipstick
Lipstick is a great way to accentuate lips and add charm. The most popular lip color is red, which anyone can wear. The secret is finding the right shade for your skin tone.
Step 4. Use a lip pencil
Frame the lips with a pencil for long lasting lipstick. You can also use a lip pencil to change the appearance of your lips, thicker or even thinner, if that's what you prefer.
Step 5. Balance the makeup
Dramatic eye makeup with dramatic lip color is usually not recommended by makeup artists because it looks very excessive. So, if you do eye makeup in a smokey style, choose a more natural lipstick color.
- If you wear red lipstick, the rest of the makeup should be relatively soft. A classic look that you can try is cat eyes with red lipstick.
- The same rules apply to balancing hair color and makeup. For example, if your hair is dyed bright red, your lipstick options will be limited.
Step 6. Consider using contours
Contouring is the basic application of dark and light colored makeup to change the appearance of the face. For example, with contouring, you can make your nose appear smaller and your cheekbones more prominent.
It can take some time to learn how to apply contouring, but if you're not happy with natural facial features, this technique is worth a try
Step 7. Remove makeup completely
Makeup can irritate the skin and cause breakouts. To prevent this, wash your face at the end of the day and remove all makeup residue.
- To avoid breakouts, choose non-comedogenic (that is, not clog pores). Usually, it says "non-pore-clogging" or "non-comedogenic" on the packaging. However, even if you use this type of makeup, pimples can still appear.
- If you wear heavy eye makeup, use a special eye remover or coconut oil to make sure the area around the eyes is completely clean every night.
Part 4 of 4: Dress Well
Step 1. Find your own style
Look online for references to see which style you like best. Make a decision based on a style that is attractive and also makes you comfortable wearing it. Consider your personality, and think of ways to accentuate that personality through your dress style.
- For example, if you're a sociable person and love punk music, take inspiration from retro punk photos. Meanwhile, if you tend to be natural and a bit hippie, look for old photos from the '60s and '70s
- Make clothes a part of who you are. This means that you should be comfortable and happy to wear it, and not copy someone else.
Step 2. Know your body shape
By knowing your body shape, you can choose clothes that accentuate your best features and hide the parts you're not particularly proud of. Here's one way to determine body shape based on measurements:
- Use a tape measure to measure your shoulders, chest, waist, and hips. You may need someone else's help to measure.
- Inverted triangle: The shoulders or chest in this body shape are larger than the hips. Shoulders or chest above 5% larger than hips.
- Square: This body shape is characterized by the shoulders, chest, and hips being roughly the same size, and the waist curve is not very pronounced. The shoulders, chest, and hips measure approximately 5% of each other, and the waist measures less than 25% smaller than the shoulders or chest.
- Triangle: Hips are wider than shoulders. Hip size above 5% larger than shoulder or chest size.
- Hourglass: The shoulders and hips are roughly the same, and the curve of the waist is very pronounced. The shoulders and hips measure approximately 5% of each other, and the waist is at least 25% smaller than the shoulders, hips, and chest.
Step 3. Choose clothes according to body shape
After knowing your body shape, you can choose clothes that can show your strengths:
- Inverted triangle: Choose a top with a relatively clean and simple cut, and free from details that make a big impression. Choose a voluminous bottom to balance the top. For example, a V-neck top with a clean cut and wide belt, with high-waisted, wide-pipe trousers.
- Square: The purpose of dressing a square body shape is to emphasize the curve of the waist to give the illusion of an hourglass. So, choose bottoms with decorations that create soft curves, and body-fitting tops that shape the curves of the waist. Avoid clothes that are boxy, or with very clear waistbands.
- Triangle (or pear): Balance the wider lower body (hips and legs) with clothes and accessories that add volume to the top and make the shoulders appear wider. Avoid volume at the bottom by wearing simple, unadorned striped bottoms.
- Hourglass: Wear clothes that follow your curves. Body fitting clothes are generally a good choice because they will definitely highlight the body's natural curves. Avoid baggy clothes that hide a small waist, otherwise you will look bigger.
Step 4. Consider your height
In addition to body shape, you also need to consider height. Think about whether your torso or legs are longer because that will affect how you dress.
- If the legs are longer, wear pants that hug the hips with a longer top, or a dress with a lower waistline to balance the body.
- If your legs are shorter, you'll want to wear high-waisted skirts and pants, and short tops or tucked-in bottoms to make your legs look longer.
Step 5. Wear clothes that fit your size
Whatever you want to wear, make sure it's the right size. Clothing that is too loose or too tight will not look good, and can also reduce self-confidence.
Tips
- Remember to be patient, especially if you want to lose weight through lifestyle changes, such as diet and exercise. It may take a month or so, but you will definitely see (and feel) the results.
- One way to find out what style of clothing and hair suits you is to take inspiration from celebrities because their styles are professionally styled. However, remember to include your personal style and be yourself.
- If you're concerned about the risks of dyeing your hair, consider lightening or darkening your hair naturally, or using henna (henna). The natural method will only change the natural color slightly, except for the henna. So don't expect dramatic results.
- If you're not sure how to apply your makeup, consider trying a makeover at a cosmetic store. You may be able to get a free promotion though it's usually expected to buy something when you're done.
