This wikiHow teaches you how to quote a line or chat entry in a WhatsApp chat thread and reply to the entry.

Step 1. Open WhatsApp Messenger
The WhatsApp icon looks like a green box with a speech bubble and a white telephone receiver inside.
If WhatsApp immediately displays a page other than the “Chats” page, tap the “Chats” button
Step 2. Touch the chat thread
A chat window will open.
Step 3. Touch and hold the bubble or conversation entry
Each chat line or entry is shown as a balloon in the WhatsApp chat thread. Once the balloon is touched and held, a list of options will be displayed.
- On iPhone, you'll see a pop-up menu with options.
- On Android devices, you will see the buttons in the bar at the top of the screen.
Step 4. Touch the Reply button
The chat line or entry will be quoted, and you can type a reply.
On Android devices, this button looks like an arrow icon pointing to the left in the toolbar at the top of the screen
Step 5. Type in a message
Use your phone's keyboard to type a reply to a quoted line or chat entry.
Step 6. Touch the “Send” button
This paper airplane icon is next to the message field. After that, the specific line or entry that you reply to will be displayed in a small box, above your reply message.
