If you want to search for emails or chats by date in your Gmail archive, follow this simple guide. If that wasn't enough, we've also provided some advanced search methods to help you.
Step
Step 1. Open the Gmail search page
In a computer browser, a search bar will appear at the top of any Gmail page. On your phone, you may need to touch the magnifying glass icon to open the search bar.
Step 2. Search for emails sent/received after a certain date with the keyword after:yyyy/MM/D
<For example, to search for emails sent after March 29, 2015, enter after:2015/03/29.
-
You can also use keywords newer, instead of after.
Step 3. Search for emails sent/received before a certain date with the keyword "before:yyyy/MM/D"
If desired, replace before with older.
Step 4. Use the two keywords above to narrow the search
For example, the keyword 'after:2015/03/29 before:2015/04/05 will show emails sent after March 29, 2015, but before April 5, 2015.
Step 5. Use relative keywords, such as older_than or newer_than, to search for new emails.
For example:
- older_than:3d will show emails that were received and left more than 3 days ago.
- newer_than:2m will show emails that were received and left less than 2 months ago.
- older_than:12d newer_than:1y will show emails that came in and out more than 12 days ago, but less than 1 year ago.
Step 6. Use other keywords as usual to narrow the search results
For example:
- after:2015/01/01 before:2015/31/12 dangdut koplo will display every message containing the words "dangdut" and "koplo" from 2015.
- newer_than:5d has:attachment will display all emails with attachments that were sent in the past 5 days.
- before:2008/04/30 from:Inul Daratista dance will display all emails from Inul Daratista that contain the word "joget" and were sent before 30 April 2008.
