This wikiHow teaches you how to check your Google email account (called "Gmail") on the Gmail website, the Gmail app on mobile devices, the Mail app on the iPhone, and in Microsoft Outlook.

Method 1 of 4: Using the Gmail Site
Step 1. Launch a web browser and visit
Type https://www.gmail.com into your browser's address bar, then press Enter.
Step 2. Type in the email or phone number for your Google account, then press Next
If you don't have a Gmail account yet, create one by clicking More Options and choose Create Account.
Step 3. Type in the password and hit Next
Your Google email inbox will open.
If the site opens another page, click Inbox It's in the top left of the Gmail page below the red " Compose " button.
Step 4. Click a message to open and read
The message will open in an email window.
- To reply to a message, click the column reply at the bottom of the message.
- If you want to delete a message, click the trash can icon located at the top of the message.
- If you want to exit the message and return to your inbox, click Inbox which is in the upper right corner.
- Explore Gmail's other features to get familiar with its interface.
Method 2 of 4: Using Gmail App on Mobile Device
Step 1. Launch the Gmail app
The app icon is a closed white and red envelope.
If you don't have Gmail on your mobile device, download the app from the iTunes App Store (for iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android)
Step 2. Sign in to your Gmail account:
- On iPhone, tap SIGN IN
- On Android, tap SKIP.
Step 3. Add Gmail account
If your Gmail account is already in the list, tap the button next to it to turn it to the "ON" position. If your account is not listed:
- On iPhone, tap + Add Account. This will open the Google Account page.
- On Android, tap + Add an email address, then tap Google. The Google account page will open.
Step 4. Enter your Gmail address, then tap Next
If you don't have a Gmail account yet, create one by tapping More options, then tap Create account (for iPhones). If you are using Android, tap Create a new account.
Step 5. Enter your Gmail password, then tap Next
Step 6. Complete the process of adding a Gmail account
- On iPhone, tap DONE.
- On Android, double tap NEXT, then tap TAKE ME TO GMAIL.
Step 7. Tap which is located in the top left corner
Step 8. Tap Everything (iPhone) or Inbox (Android).
Your Gmail inbox will open, which you can use to view recent mail.
Step 9. Tap one of the messages in the inbox to open and read
- If you want to reply to a message, tap the arrow in the lower right corner.
- If you want to delete a message, tap the trash can icon at the top of the screen.
- If you want to exit the message and return to your inbox, tap X which is in the top left corner.
Method 3 of 4: Using the Mail App on iPhone
Step 1. Open Settings

it's usually on the home screen.
Step 2. Scroll down the screen, then tap Mail
This option is in the section containing various other Apple apps, such as Calendar and Notes.
Step 3. Tap Accounts
This is the first section on the menu.
Step 4. Tap on Add Account which is located at the bottom area under " ACCOUNT " section
Step 5. Tap on Google which is in the middle of the list
Step 6. Enter the Gmail address in the field provided
Create a Gmail account first if you don't have one
Step 7. Tap on the blue NEXT button present on the screen
Step 8. Enter the password in the field provided
Step 9. Tap on the blue NEXT button present on the screen
If you've enabled two-step verification for Gmail, enter the verification code received via text message or using Authenticator
Step 10. Slide "Mail" to "On" position

Select any other Gmail data you want to sync with your iPhone. Do this by swiping the data you want to view on your iPhone to the “On” position
Step 11. Tap Save located in the top right corner
Now you can receive and send Gmail messages using the iPhone's built-in Mail app.
Step 12. Run Mail
The app icon is a closed envelope in white and blue. The inbox screen will open.
If the inbox is not opened, tap Mailboxes in the top left corner, then tap Gmail.
Step 13. Tap the message in the inbox to open and read
- If you want to reply to a message, tap the arrow in the lower right corner.
- If you want to delete a message, tap the trash can icon at the bottom of the screen.
- If you want to exit the message and return to your inbox, tap Back which is in the top left corner.
Method 4 of 4: Using Microsoft Outlook
Step 1. Launch Outlook on the computer
Step 2. Click the File menu or tab
Step 3. Click Accounts
Step 4. Click Add Account
Step 5. Click Email Accounts
Step 6. Type your name in the space provided
Step 7. Enter your Gmail email address and password in the fields provided
Step 8. Click Add Account and exit the dialog box
Step 9. Click Gmail located in the left pane of the Outlook window
Gmail messages will be displayed in the right pane.
