This wikiHow teaches you how to get rid of most pop-up ads from the free version of Avira Antivirus. Keep in mind that you can't disable the daily reminder to upgrade to the Avira Pro version or the Phantom VPN reminder that occasionally pops up when your computer is connected to an unsecured network. Apart from that, the only way to turn off the pop-up advertising window from Avira on Mac computers is to turn off the pop-up and scanning options through Avira's settings.

Method 1 of 2: Using the Avira Settings Menu
Step 1. Right-click the Avira icon
You can find this umbrella icon in the lower-left corner of your Windows computer desktop. However, you may need to click the “ ^ ” first to see the icon.
- On a Mac, click the Avira logo in the upper-right corner of the screen.
- If the mouse/trackpad doesn't have a right-click button, use two fingers to click the mouse button or touch the trackpad, or press the right corner of the trackpad button to right-click an option.
Step 2. Click Manage Antivirus
It's in a pop-up (Windows) or drop-down window (Mac). After that, the Avira control panel will be displayed.
Step 3. Click the gear icon of the settings menu ("Settings")
It's in the lower-left corner of the window.

This tab is on the left side of the window.
Step 5. Click Acoustic alerts
You can find this option under the box “ General ”.
Step 6. Check the "No warning" box

On a Mac computer, click “ Open Avira ” in the drop-down menu before you select the bar “ Real-Time Scan ”.
Step 11. Close the Avira window
You will no longer receive most advertising pop-up windows from Avira, although you will still see a pop-up window with a reminder to upgrade to the Pro version once a day when you turn on your computer.
Method 2 of 2: Using Local Security Policy Programs/Tools
Step 1. Open the “Start” menu
Click the Windows logo in the lower-left corner of the screen. The Local Security Policy tool or program can block most pop-up windows from Avira.
This option is only available on the Professional edition of Windows. If you are using Windows Home edition, you cannot access the equipment
Step 2. Type local security policy in the “Start” window
The Local Security Policy program will be searched on the computer.
Step 3. Click Local Security Policy
It's at the top of the "Start" window. After that, the Local Security Policy program window will be opened.
If it does not give results, type secpol.msc and click the option “ secpol.msc " at the top of the window " Start ”.
Step 4. Click on Software Restriction Policies
This folder is on the left side of the window.
Step 5. Click Actions
It's a tab at the top of the window. A drop-down menu will appear after that.
Step 6. Click on New Software Restriction Policy
This option is in the drop-down menu “ Action After that, several options will appear in a box on the right side of the window.
You can also right click the folder " Software Restriction Policies " and choose " New Software Restriction Policy ” in the drop-down menu.
Step 7. Double-click Additional Rules
This folder is on the right side of the window.
Step 8. Click Action, then select New Path Rules….
You can see this option at the bottom of the menu “ Action A new window will be opened after that.
You can also right-click the right side of the window and select “ New Path Rules… ” in the displayed drop-down menu.
Step 9. Click Browse…
This option is below the " Path " text field. A file browsing window will open and you will be able to locate the Avira Antivirus installation folder.
Step 10. Visit the Avira Antivirus installation folder and select the notification file
Click " This PC ”, select a hard drive name, click “ Program Files (x86) ", click " Avira ", choose " AntiVir Desktop, and double click the file “ ipmgui.exe ”.
Step 11. Make sure the security level is set to “Disallowed” option
If you see a different option under the “Security level” heading, click the drop-down box below it and select “ Disallowed ” before continuing.
Step 12. Click Apply, then select OK.
