You can search for specific users, trends and topics on Instagram. However, the searches you perform are stored in the application memory. If you don't want those search results saved, you can clear your search history from within the app. You cannot delete the search history from the computer.

Method 1 of 2: Using the Settings Menu
Step 1. Tap the Instagram icon to open the app
Find the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2. Tap the Profile button at the bottom right corner of the screen
You will go to the profile page. From that page, you can access the application settings.
Step 3. Tap the cog icon in the top right corner of the screen to open the Options menu
If you're using an Android phone, tap the three vertical dots in the upper-right corner of the screen
Step 4. Tap the Clear Search History option at the bottom of the screen
After tapping on the option, you will see a confirmation window.
Step 5. Tap Yes, I'm sure on the confirmation window
Your search history will be deleted automatically.
Step 6. Tap the magnifying glass icon, then select the Search bar to check the changes
If you don't see any search results in the Top / Recent column, you have successfully cleared your search history.
If there's still search history showing, tap the Clear option in the top-right corner of the search history (under Places)
Method 2 of 2: Hiding Specific Searches
Step 1. Tap the Instagram icon to open the app
Find the toolbar at the bottom of the screen.
Step 2. Tap the magnifying glass icon at the bottom of the screen to open the search bar
Step 3. Tap the search bar at the top of the screen
Step 4. Tap on the Top (or Recent) tab under the search bar
Both tabs store all of your recent searches, as well as the user search keywords, hashtags, and places you search most frequently. Other available search categories include:
- People, which is the username you've searched for.
- Tags, the hashtags you've searched for.
- Places, which is the location you've been looking for.
Step 5. Tap and hold on a specific keyword
You can hide keywords for user searches, hashtags, or locations from the search list.
Step 6. After a while, a menu will appear
Tap Hide.
Step 7. Repeat the above steps until you finish hiding search keywords
These keywords will not appear in the search history.
