WhatsApp is an inexpensive messaging application as an alternative to SMS. WhatsApp also supports sending photos, videos and voice messages. WhatsApp can be used on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Nokia S40, Symbian, Blackberry phones.

Part 1 of 2: Creating an Account
Step 1. Register an account
Open WhatsApp. On the Your Phone Number screen, enter your phone number, then tap Done.
- If you don't live in the United States, touch United States, then select the country you live in.
- When Registering, WhatsApp will send you a verification code via SMS. You need to enter this code before proceeding to the next step. In addition to SMS, you can also use an automatic phone call service.
Step 2. Enter your name
On the Profile screen, enter the name you want to use for WhatsApp, then tap Done.
- You can use a real name or a pseudonym.
- You can add a profile photo on this screen.
Step 3. Find your friends on WhatsApp
WhatsApp will access the contacts on your phone. If you allow it, WhatsApp will use the number in your contacts to search for WhatsApp users and add them to the favorites screen and list all your contacts in the Contacts screen.
If you don't allow this access, you can add friends to WhatsApp manually using their phone number
Part 2 of 2: Sending Free Text Messages
Step 1. Touch Favorites
You can also send messages from the screen
Step 2. Touch one of your friends
If none of your friends use WhatsApp, you'll need to ask them to install it on their phone before they can send messages
Step 3. Type in the message, then tap Send
You'll see the message above the field where you typed the text message.
