iPhone is equipped with a variety of ringtones (ringtones) that can be used. You can change the default ringtone and also assign ringtones to different contacts. You can also change the alert sound for notifications (notification). You can add ringtones to iPhone using iTunes. Ringtones can be purchased in the iTunes Store or made your own from sound files.

Method 1 of 4: Changing the Ringtone Via iPhone
Step 1. Open the "Settings" application
You can change the ringtone and notification sound in the "Settings" app.
If you want to set a ringtone for a specific contact, read the next section
Step 2. Select the “Sounds” option
This will open a new menu that manages iPhone sounds.
Step 3. Tap on “Ringtone” to see the available ringtones
All ringtones installed on the iPhone will be displayed in the menu. Ringtones added from iTunes or the iTunes Store will appear at the top of the menu. To find ringtones available on older iPhones, tap the “Classic” category.

- Tapping the “Store” option at the top of the ringtone list will open the iTunes Store. You can buy new ringtones in the iTunes Store.
Step 4. Choose a ringtone
Tapping a ringtone will play a preview and select it. You can return to the “Sound” menu after selecting the ringtone you want to use.
Instead of using a ringtone, you can use an alert tone as a ringtone. Scroll down the screen to find a list of alert tones
Step 5. Tap on different notification types to change the alert tone
Different system functions will have different alert tones as well. Tapping the function allows you to install a new sound. Tap the “Classic” category at the bottom of the alert tones list to find the alert tones available on older iPhones.
- You can add new notification sounds using iTunes on a computer or purchase them in the iTunes Store. Read this article for more information. Alert tones that have been added to your iPhone will usually appear at the top of the list. However, you may have to scroll down to the “Ringtone” section while selecting the sound you want.
- Not all apps allow you to change the alert tone. If you don't find the option you want in this article, you can check the "Settings" application menu. However, you may still not be able to change the alert tone for certain apps.
Method 2 of 4: Installing Ringtones on Contacts
Step 1. Open the “Contacts” app
You can assign a specific ringtone to any contact stored in the " Contacts " application. The application may be in a directory (folder) named “Extras”.
Step 2. Tap the desired contact to change the ringtone
This will display the contact details.
Step 3. Tap on the “Edit” button
Various contact fields will appear.
Step 4. Tap on the “Ringtone” option and select the ringtone you want to use
Selecting a ringtone in this menu is the same as selecting a ringtone in the “Sounds” menu on the iPhone. All ringtones that have been added from your computer will appear at the top of the list. You can move the screen down to select the available alert tones.
Method 3 of 4: Sending Ringtones from iTunes to iPhone
Step 1. Make sure the latest version of iTunes is installed on your computer
You will use iTunes to send the ringtone file to your iPhone. The latest version of iTunes makes sending ringtone files easier than previous versions of iTunes. Therefore, make sure you have the latest version of iTunes and follow these steps:
- For Windows – Press the alt=""Image" key and click on the "Help" menu. Select the “Check for Updates” option to download and install any available iTunes updates.</li" />
- For Mac – Click the “iTunes” menu and select the “Check for Updates” option.
Step 2. Sign in to your Apple ID
Make sure you're signed in to the Apple ID that you used to purchase the ringtone. Click the profile button at the top right of the window and sign in to your account.
Step 3. Connect iPhone with computer
After waiting a while, you'll see a notification at the top of the row of buttons in iTunes indicating that your iPhone is connected to your computer.
If you have never previously connected a computer to an iPhone, you will be prompted to perform a brief setup process
Step 4. Select iPhone and click on “Summary” option
This will open the iPhone details.
Step 5. Check the box “Manually manage music and videos” and click the “Apply” button
This will allow you to easily add ringtones to your iPhone.
If you've previously sent data from another computer to your iPhone, you'll need to delete the data sent from that computer before you can send data from the new computer. You can only send data from one computer at a time
Step 6. Click the “button
.." at the top of iTunes and select the "Tones" option. This will display all the ringtones stored on the computer that can be sent to the iPhone.
- If you have purchased a ringtone on iTunes, but can't find it in the list, click the profile button and select the “Purchased” option. After that, select the “Tones” tab on the “Purchased” screen and find the ringtone you want to send. Click the iCloud button next to the ringtone you want to download to your computer.
- If you are prompted to authorize the computer, click the “Store” menu (press the alt=""Image" key if you can't find it) and select the option “Authorize this Computer”. After that, you will be asked to sign in to your Apple ID. You can allow five computers at a time. After giving your computer permission, you can download all files purchased on iTunes.</li" />

- If you downloaded an M4R file from the internet, you can drag it into the iTunes window to add it to your “Tones” collection. M4R is the iTunes ringtone format.
Step 7. Click and drag the ringtone you want to send to iPhone
You'll see the iPhone menu appear on the left side of the window.
Step 8. Drag the ringtone to the iPhone menu on the left side of the window
The file will be sent to the iPhone immediately.
Method 4 of 4: Troubleshooting Issues Appearing on Ringtone Settings
Step 1. Reset iPhone network settings if the ringtone doesn't change
Some users have reported that their ringtones return to their original ringtones automatically after some time. This happens even though the iPhone shows it has used the new ringtone. You can fix this problem by resetting network settings. This step will not delete your data. However, you must re-enter the wireless network information (wireless).
Step 2. Open the “Settings” application and select the “General” option
This will open the general iPhone settings.
Step 3. Move the screen down and tap on the “Reset” option
Various reset options will be displayed.
Step 4. Tap on the “Reset Network Settings” option and confirm that you want to reset the iPhone
You may be asked to enter your iPhone password. iPhone will turn off and on automatically during the reset process.
Step 5. Test the ringtone again
The steps that have been taken previously will usually fix the problem with the ringtone or notification.
