Shrimp that have been peeled and cleaned can be fried quickly and easily. You can fry or sauté prawns in a little oil or butter, or fry them in bread crumbs or seasoned flour. Read the guide below to learn about each of the different frying method options.

For portions of two to four people
Ordinary Fried Shrimp
- 450 grams of peeled and cleaned prawns
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic (optional)
- 45 ml lime (optional)
Bread Flour Fried Shrimp
- 450 grams of peeled and cleaned prawns
- 1 liter of oil for frying
- 1 egg
- 500 ml bread flour
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Seasoned Flour Fried Shrimp
- 450 grams of peeled and cleaned prawns
- 1 liter of oil for frying
- 125 ml milk
- 125 ml buttermilk
- 125 ml hot sauce (optional)
- 250 ml seasoning flour
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Step
Method 1 of 3: Regular Fried Shrimp
Step 1. Melt the butter over the teflon
Heat 2 tablespoons of butter over a large Teflon over medium to high heat until the butter is melted.
- You can use oil instead of butter. Just heat the oil over medium to high heat for a few minutes until the oil looks shinier. But don't let the oil smoke.
- If the butter or oil starts to smoke, remove the teflon from the stove and reduce the heat. After a few minutes, put the Teflon back on the stove, add more butter or oil to replace the evaporated butter or oil, and make sure the oil or butter is no longer smoking.
Step 2. Saute the garlic
Place the minced garlic in the Teflon and sauté with a heat-resistant spatula for 30 to 60 seconds, or until the onions give off a strong aroma.
- You will need two cloves of garlic for this recipe.
- You can also use garlic powder as a substitute. Add the garlic powder along with the salt and pepper. Use about 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder in place of a teaspoon of fresh garlic.
- If you want (or don't want to), you can use no garlic at all.
Step 3. Add the prawns
Put the prawns in the Teflon and immediately season with salt and pepper. Cook until the color turns pink and opaque.
-
Sprinkle salt and pepper evenly. The amount is to your liking, but for starters, you can try 1/2 teaspoon for salt and 1/4 teaspoon for pepper.
-
The time it takes to fry the shrimp depends on the size of the shrimp. Large shrimp should take three to four minutes, medium shrimp should take 2.5 to 3.5 minutes, and small shrimp should only take two to 2.5 minutes.
-
Stir the prawns occasionally with your spatula as they fry.
-
Don't overfill the Teflon. The shrimp should be able to lay flat with Teflon. If you're going to cook a large batch, cook in shifts, adding oil or butter if needed.
Step 4. Sprinkle lime juice over the prawns
Sprinkle three to four tablespoons of lime on the surface of the shrimp that are being cooked. Allow the prawns to simmer for a few minutes before removing them from the stove.
- If you want (or don't want to), you can skip the lime at all.
- Don't fry the prawns too long after you've sprinkled the lime. Once the color of the prawns has become opaque, the prawns are actually ready to eat. You'll burn the prawns if you let them heat too long after sprinkling them with lime.
Step 5. Serve while hot
Remove the prawns from the stove and serve immediately.
Method 2 of 3: Bread Flour Fried Shrimp
Step 1. Heat the oil in a frying pan
Pour oil in a frying pan and heat it to 190 degrees Celsius.
- If you don't have a skillet, you can use a large Teflon or pan. Heat the oil over medium to high heat.
- Check the oil temperature using a thermometer. Check the temperature periodically throughout the frying process to make sure the oil is not too hot or not too hot.
Step 2. Mix the breadcrumbs, salt and pepper
Pour all three into a wide bowl, then use a fork to stir and taste the flour mixture.
- You can also use a plate with a high rim if you don't have a bowl.
- You can also use more than one type of bread flour if you want.
- If you're not sure how much salt and pepper you should use, try using 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper.
Step 3. Dip the prawns into the egg
Dip each piece of shrimp into the egg you've cracked and mix. Make sure all parts of the shrimp are covered by the egg.
-
Before transferring them, hold the prawns over the egg bowl so that the excess egg can sink into the bowl and not spill onto the table and don't allow the breadcrumbs to stick to the excess egg (not the shrimp).
- You can do this step with your bare hands, or use tongs to keep your hands clean and non-sticky.
Step 4. Coat the prawns with the breadcrumb mixture
After coating it with the egg, immediately coat the shrimp with the breadcrumb mixture that you have made. Make sure all parts of the shrimp are evenly coated.
As with the egg coating, hold the prawns over the breadcrumbs bowl so the excess flour can fall back into the bowl
Step 5. Fry the prawns for two to three minutes in hot oil
Place a few pieces of prawns in the hot oil until the breadcrumbs turn golden brown.
-
The shrimp flesh itself should turn an opaque color.
-
Fry the prawns little by little so that the pan is not too full.
Step 6. Serve while hot
Remove from the pan and drain. After a minute or two, serve the prawns.
- Use a sieve to remove the prawns from the pan.
- To speed up draining, place the shrimp on a plate lined with paper towels.
Method 3 of 3: Seasoned Flour Fried Shrimp
Step 1. Heat the oil
Pour oil into a frying pan and heat the oil to 190 degrees Celsius.
- If you don't have a skillet, use a large Teflon or pan instead. Heat the oil over medium to high heat.
- Monitor the temperature of the oil with a thermometer, don't let it get too hot or not too hot.
Step 2. Mix milk, buttermilk and hot sauce
Mix these three liquid ingredients in a bowl until smooth.
- Make sure the bowl is wide enough for the shrimp to fit in.
- If you don't like spicy, reduce the amount of hot sauce, or don't use it at all.
Step 3. Mix the seasoning flour, salt and pepper in a separate bowl
- Use a bowl that is wide enough.
- If you're not sure about the salt and pepper, use three tablespoons of salt and two teaspoons of pepper.
Step 4. Add the prawns to the milk mixture
Use your bare hands or tongs to dip the shrimp into the milk mixture. Coat the prawns evenly.
Once coated, shake the prawns slightly to remove excess milk mixture
Step 5. Coat the prawns with the flour mixture
Transfer each shrimp that has been wrapped in the milk mixture to a bowl of seasoning flour, and coat the shrimp with flour until smooth.
Once coated, shake the shrimp to remove excess flour
Step 6. Fry the prawns for two to three minutes
Put the prawns in the pan and fry until golden brown.
- The shrimp flesh itself should be opaque in color.
-
Fry the prawns little by little. Don't overfill the pan.
Step 7. Serve while hot
Remove the prawns using a sieve and drain. Cool slightly for a few minutes, then serve.
