Butter cookies, which are also popular as Dutch biscuits, are not only delicious, but also very easy to make with simple ingredients that you probably already have in your kitchen! Before baking, cookies can first be shaped according to taste. After that, the cookies can be baked and consumed immediately, or packaged as beautiful as possible to be given to those closest to them.
Ingredients
- 225 grams butter
- 200 grams of sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 tsp. vanilla essence or extract
- tsp. salt
- 241 grams of all-purpose flour
To make: 36 cookies
Step
Method 1 of 2: Making Cookie Dough
Step 1. Preheat the oven to 200°C
Turn on the “bake” setting on the oven, then preheat the oven to 200°C. Then, place the grill rack in the center of the oven so that the cookies can cook more evenly.
Most ovens take about 10 minutes to completely heat up
Step 2. Put 225 grams of butter and 200 grams of sugar in a bowl
While granulated sugar will work best, feel free to use raw sugar if that's all you have in your kitchen. If the butter used has been stored in the refrigerator for a long time, let it rest at room temperature for 30 minutes until the texture softens so that it is easier to process later.
Use a large bowl so that it can fit all the ingredients used
Step 3. Beat the butter and sugar until the texture is light and fluffy
Use an electric mixer on the highest speed to process both ingredients until the butter is paler in color, and the dough has a softer texture. Generally, it takes about 5 minutes for the texture to turn creamy.
Use granulated sugar for best results. However, if you only have raw sugar, feel free to use it
Tip:
If you don't have an electric mixer, use a special spoon to stir the dessert. Although it will take more time, sooner or later you will also get similar results.
Step 4. Put the egg and 2 teaspoons of vanilla essence in a bowl
Then, use an electric mixer to process the wet dough until all the ingredients are well mixed and there are no lumps.
If the eggs you've used have been sitting on the counter or in the fridge for a long time, try breaking them into a separate bowl first to make sure the contents haven't gone bad, as well as to make sure there aren't any cracks in the eggshells getting into the batter
Step 5. Combine flour and salt in a separate bowl
In a medium-sized bowl, add tsp, salt and 241 grams of flour. Then, mix the two with a spoon until well combined, and use the back of the spoon to crush any lumps of flour.
Use all-purpose flour for best results. However, if you only have whole wheat flour, feel free to use it
Step 6. Pour the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients
Make a small hole in the middle of the wet dough, then add the flour and salt to it. After that, turn on the electric mixer on the lowest speed and process the dough until all the ingredients in it are well mixed.
Notes:
Just stir all ingredients until combined. Be careful, kneading the dough for too long can make the texture dry out!
Step 7. Cover the bowl with the dough and put it in the refrigerator for 1 hour
This method is effective in cooling the temperature of the cookies while making the texture of the cookies sturdier when baked. Previously, don't forget to cover the bowl with plastic wrap so that the dough doesn't absorb the aroma of other ingredients in the refrigerator. Don't have plastic wrap? Just store the dough in an airtight container.
Method 2 of 2: Forming and Baking Cookies
Step 1. Use a cookie press or a special cookie press to produce a more beautiful and uniform shape
In fact, this is the easiest way to make the cookie look more professional and perfect. To use the tool, you just need to fill the tool with dough and tighten the lid. Then, press the lever to dispense the dough into a greased baking sheet.
- Purchase a cookie press at any major supermarket or pastry shop near you.
- This option is suitable for those of you who want to gift cookies to loved ones.
Step 2. Roll the dough if you want to make round cookies
Remove the dough from the bowl and place it on a cleaned table. Use your hands to shape the dough into chunks, then quickly roll it out to a consistent thickness so that the cookies cook more evenly when they cook.
- Sprinkle the table with flour so that the dough does not stick when processed.
- Make a roll of dough 30 cm long and 5 cm wide.
Step 3. Cut the cookie dough to a thickness of 2.5 cm and place it on a baking sheet
Use a very sharp knife to cut the dough, then arrange the pieces of dough on a baking sheet that has been greased with oil.
- Try as much as you can to cut the dough to the same thickness and provide an even gap between each dough to ensure a more even level of doneness.
- Transfer the dough roll onto a cutting board to make it easier to cut.
- Leave about 2.5 cm between each dough laid out on the baking sheet.
Step 4. Bake cookies for 10 minutes or until they turn golden brown
Place the baking sheet on the center rack of the oven, then set the timer to 10 minutes. After 8 minutes, check the condition of the cookies. If the edges are starting to brown, take them out immediately and transfer them to a wire rack to cool them down.
- Always wear heat-resistant gloves when removing the pan from the oven.
- Refrigerate cookies for 30 minutes.
- Put the cookies in an airtight container so that the texture and taste is always maintained, then store the container on the kitchen counter for a maximum of 2 weeks. If the cookies are not going to be consumed in the near future, store the container in the freezer for up to 5 months.
Tips
Butter cookies are the perfect symbol of gratitude for someone precious to you
Warning
- Use heat-resistant gloves when removing the pan from the oven.
- Because butter cookies crumble very easily, especially when they are still hot, be careful when transferring cooked cookies to a wire rack.
