Bakon is a delicious snack and makes a great side dish. Frozen bacon takes a long time to thaw in the refrigerator. So, try an alternative method to defrost it faster. You can use the microwave or soak the bacon to defrost it. These methods can defrost 0.45 kg of frozen bacon in less than an hour.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using the Microwave
Step 1. Line the bacon with tissue paper on a microwave-safe plate
Spread a tissue paper on a heatproof plate. If you are using a large plate, use 2 sheets of tissue paper to cover the entire bottom. Tissue paper can also help absorb excess fat on the bacon. Remove the bacon from the package, then place it on the tissue paper.
Spread the bacon as much as possible to speed up the defrosting process. If the bacon is lumpy, let the ice melt for 2 minutes before placing it on a plate. This will make the bacon easier to separate
Step 2. Cover the bacon with tissue paper
The high fat content of the bacon can make it splatter the oil so that the microwave is dirty. Place a paper towel over the top of the bacon to absorb the fat.
Use regular kitchen paper towels. This tissue paper can be purchased at supermarkets
Step 3. Press the defrost button on the microwave
If the microwave requires you to enter the weight of the bacon, check the packaging for the correct number. The microwave will use this information to determine the duration of defrosting. If your microwave can defrost frozen food automatically, simply press the “meat defrost” button and press start. The microwave will automatically set the time to defrost the bacon.
- If the bacon is not stored in a package, use a kitchen scale to find out its weight.
- Warming bacon in the microwave usually takes less than 15 minutes.
Step 4. Cook the bacon immediately after thawing
When the microwave has finished heating, carefully transfer the bacon to the counter and remove the paper towels. Immediately cook the bacon so that bacteria do not multiply in the meat and cause disease. Fry the bacon in the pan, bake in the oven, or cook in the microwave.
Step 5. You can store the bacon in the refrigerator for up to 5 days
Place the bacon in an airtight container before placing it in the refrigerator. Don't eat the bacon if it tastes weird.
Method 2 of 2: Defrosting the Bacon with Cold Water
Step 1. Place the bacon in a watertight plastic bag if the package is open
If the original package of the bacon has been opened or damaged, you will need to transfer it to a watertight bag to prevent it from being damaged by water or bacteria. Pockets with zippers can also be used because they are easy to open and close.
- Buy a waterproof bag at the supermarket.
- Leave the bacon in the package if the package is still tightly closed.
Step 2. Soak the bag of bacon in cold water
Fill a sink or large bowl with cold water from the faucet. Place the bag of bacon in the water.
Do not use the sink if you intend to use it within the next hour
Step 3. Change the water every 30 minutes until the bacon is thawed
The water will turn warm over time, especially if you live in the tropics. Change the water every 30 minutes to keep the bacon from thawing quickly. The bacon is already melted if the texture looks pliable, not stiff.
0.45 kg of bacon took about an hour to thaw
Step 4. Cook the bacon in the oven, or microwave
Bakons should be cooked immediately after thawing to prevent bacteria from multiplying. You can cook bacon that hasn't fully defrosted. Cook the bacon using your favorite cooking technique.
Step 5. You can store the bacon in the refrigerator for 5 days
Once the bacon is cooked, place it in an airtight container. If the bacon smells bad, don't eat it.
