Peptic ulcers are sores on the inside of the stomach or small intestine. While some people with peptic ulcers may not even notice it, others experience a range of uncomfortable symptoms. For those who experience these symptoms, bananas can be used as an effective natural treatment option. Bananas can even prevent peptic ulcers from occurring.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Bananas or Other Foods to Prevent Ulcers
Step 1. Eat three bananas every day
Incorporating three bananas into a healthy diet can help prevent ulcers and reduce pain. You can eat bananas right away, add them to a smoothie, or consume them any other way you like. Bananas are effective in preventing ulcers because they are rich in potassium, magnesium, manganese, fiber, vitamins B6 and C, and folate. Some studies show that bananas are rich in enzymes that can help stop the growth of bacteria that cause stomach ulcers.
You are recommended to start eating 3 bananas every day until the ulcer symptoms subside. You should continue to eat 3 bananas every day until the ulcer symptoms disappear
Step 2. Combine bananas with other healthy foods
By incorporating bananas into a healthy lifestyle, you have a greater chance of preventing ulcers. In addition, bananas also increase the intake of non-acidic fruit in your diet. Non-acidic fruits include kiwi, mango, and papaya. Also try to briefly boil vegetables such as broccoli or carrots. You should also eat more leeks, onions, oats, and whole grains and grains.
- These foods are rich in vitamins and will help speed up the healing process of the ulcer.
- Bananas are rich in carbohydrates, so eating them alongside healthy fats and protein can help prevent your blood sugar from rising/falling sharply.
Step 3. Avoid sour fruits
Sour fruits include oranges, peaches, berries, and grapefruit. These acidic fruits will increase stomach acid and irritate ulcers by destroying the mucus lining in the stomach. Try eating non-acidic fruit instead!
Step 4. Cook vegetables and don't eat raw vegetables
Raw vegetables may be acidic, especially corn, lentils, squash, and olives. Again, acidic foods can irritate peptic ulcers.
Step 5. Limit alcohol intake to just a few drinks a day
Excessive alcohol consumption, more than a few drinks a day can worsen the condition of ulcers by interacting with the bacteria that causes it, namely Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). To reduce alcohol intake, try to drink slowly, or tell friends and family that you should only drink 2 alcoholic drinks a day to heal an ulcer.
Never consume alcoholic beverages on an empty stomach as they can irritate peptic ulcers
Step 6. Reduce coffee intake
Although medical research can't show a connection, coffee is widely believed to cause ulcers. On the other hand, the acidity of coffee can cause an upset stomach. In fact, all drinks containing coffee can irritate an existing ulcer. So, your peptic ulcer symptoms may ease if you reduce your caffeine intake.
Step 7. Avoid smoking
Smoking, as well as drinking alcoholic beverages, can worsen the condition of ulcers by interacting with the bacteria that causes it, namely Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori). By smoking, your chances of getting gastric ulcers will increase. If you are a heavy smoker, try to gradually reduce your daily consumption.
Step 8. Consider replacing aspirin with paracetamol
If you have a headache or need to take pain medication, consider taking paracetamol instead of aspirin. Like alcohol and cigarettes, aspirin can make ulcers worse, especially in someone with H. pylori bacteria in their stomach.
Talk to your doctor about changing your pain medication
Method 2 of 3: Maximizing the Effectiveness of Bananas
Step 1. Peel, dry, mash and drink bananas
This step will help release the banana's healing properties for peptic ulcers. Dried bananas contain cytoindosides that can help increase mucus in the digestive tract, thus helping healing and preventing ulcers. Unripe bananas can stimulate cell growth in the intestinal tract. In addition, dried bananas contain polysaccharides which are also contained in anti-ulcer drugs.
Step 2. Peel the banana to start the natural remedy
Peel unripe bananas by hand by breaking the ends and peeling off the skin, or using a knife to cut off the ends and then peel off the skin.
Step 3. Cut the peeled bananas into 0.3 cm thick and dry them
Dry the bananas by drying in the sun for 7 days, or by placing them in the oven at 76 degrees Celsius for 5 hours.
Step 4. Use a pestle and mortar to grind the dried bananas into a powder
If you don't have one, try putting the dried bananas in a plastic bag and using a grinder or other heavy object to grind them.
Step 5. Mix 2 tablespoons of banana powder with 1 tablespoon of honey
Drink this mixture 3 times a day, in the morning, afternoon and evening. You can add milk or other liquid too if you want.
Method 3 of 3: Determining whether you have a peptic ulcer
Step 1. Determine if you are susceptible to this disease
If you smoke and/or drink a lot of alcohol, you are more prone to peptic ulcers. Alcohol can thin the mucus lining of the stomach which will increase stomach acid, while smoking will increase the risk of ulcers in those with H. pylori bacteria in their stomachs. Peptic ulcers were previously thought to be caused by spicy food, but this is not the case.
You may also be susceptible if you have a family history of ulcers, take aspirin regularly, or are over 50 years of age
Step 2. Watch for symptoms of peptic ulcers
Mild symptoms of peptic ulcers include burning pain in the stomach between meals or at night, flatulence, burning sensation in the chest, and nausea. In extreme cases, you may also pass dark stools, experience weight loss, have severe pain, or vomit blood.
Step 3. Understand the medical treatment options
Peptic ulcers are caused by bacteria in the stomach called H. pylori. If you experience any of the severe symptoms, visit the emergency department immediately. If your symptoms are mild and do not go away, make an appointment with your GP. Doctors will usually prescribe antibiotics and/or acid reducers to treat ulcers.
