Although there is no white dye, you can change the color of your clothes to white in the following way. It's quite easy! Mix hot water with a color remover to fade the color of the clothes to make them look whiter. You can also use a chlorine bleach solution to bleach clothes. It is quite difficult to make clothes completely white. However, you can remove as much of the original color as possible to make it appear whiter.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Removing the Original Color of Clothes
Step 1. Fill a large container with 15 liters of hot water
Turn on the sink and let the water heat up. After that, fill a large container with hot water. Alternatively, fill a pot with 15 liters of water and then turn on the stove. Once the water starts to boil, turn off the stove and wait 5 minutes so it doesn't get too hot.
Make sure the water used is not too hot before moving on to the next step
Step 2. Sprinkle 30 grams of decolorizing powder
Most decolorizing powders are sold in small packages with adjusted dosages. Add 1 sachet of clothes remover to hot water and stir. If the decolorizing powder is sold in large packs, sprinkle 30 grams of the decolorizing powder into the hot water and stir until combined.
- Decolorizing powders are commonly known as clothing discolourers.
- You can buy decolorizing powder at your local convenience store or online.
- Some color removers that are often sold in the market are Rit Color Remover and Carbona Color Run Remover.
Step 3. Soak the clothes in the decolorizing solution
Place the clothes you want to change to white in hot water. Use a spoon or other kitchen utensil to submerge the garment in hot water so that it is completely submerged. Toss the garment in the hot water so that it is completely submerged.
Stir the clothes with a spoon or other kitchen utensil so the color remover can seep into all parts of the clothes
Step 4. Let the clothes soak for 30 minutes
Let the clothes soak so that the color remover can work optimally and fade the color of the clothes. Do not move, stir, or touch clothing for at least 30 minutes.
Use a watch, cell phone, or stove timer
Step 5. Remove the clothes after the color has faded
After 30 minutes, use a spoon or other kitchen utensil to remove the clothes. If the color is still not completely gone, soak it again in the water. Wait for 10 minutes then check the color of the clothes. Let the clothes soak until they are as white as you want them to be.
After about 2 hours, the color remover will remove most of the color of the clothes, and you can get the clothes out
Tip:
If the color is not completely gone, or it looks "stained", repeat this process until the color is completely gone. Fill a container with hot water, add more decolorizing powder, then soak the clothes in it.
Step 6. Wash and dry the clothes to remove any remaining stain remover
Put the clothes in the washing machine and wash as usual. However, do not wash clothes at the same time as other clothes. After washing, put the clothes in the tumble dryer and dry them on a standard drying cycle.
- You can put the clothes on after they dry.
- The washer and dryer will neutralize any traces of color remover on the clothes. Therefore, clothes can be washed together with clothes at a later date.
Method 2 of 2: Bleach Clothes with Bleach
Step 1. Mix chlorine bleach with water
Close the sink hole and turn on the faucet until it is full. You can also use a large bucket or container. Open the chlorine bleach package and pour it into a measuring cup. After that, gently pour the bleach into the hot water and stir until combined.
- For example, mix 1 liter of water with 250 ml of chlorine bleach.
- Instead of using regular bleach, use chlorine bleach to whiten clothes evenly.
- You can buy chlorine bleach at your nearest convenience store.
Warning:
Chlorine bleach can produce a toxic gas that is quite dangerous if inhaled. Therefore, do this method in an open space and wear a mask so that the toxic gas of chlorine bleach is not inhaled.
Step 2. Soak the clothes in a chlorine bleach solution and stir
Place the clothes in the bleach solution and then use a spoon or other kitchen utensil to soak them. This is done so that the entire garment is completely submerged. Stir the garment so that it is completely submerged and the bleach is fully absorbed.
- Stir the clothes gently to avoid spilling the bleach solution.
- If your skin comes into contact with the bleach solution, rinse immediately with cold water.
Step 3. Let the clothes soak for 10 minutes
Let the clothes soak so the bleach can soak in completely and turn the clothes white. After 10 minutes, use a spoon to lift the garment so you can check the color. If the result is not what you want, re-soak the garment in the bleach solution. Wait for 5 minutes then check again.
Check the color of the clothes every 5 minutes until the result is what you want
Step 4. Rinse the clothes in cold water to remove any remaining bleach solution
Place the clothes in the sink or bucket and rinse with cold water. The water will remove the bleach that is on the clothes. After doing this, the clothes are safe to wear.
Deactivated bleach will not stain other clothes
Step 5. Wash the clothes in the washing machine and dry using a clothes dryer
Wash the clothes in the washing machine as usual to remove any remaining bleach residue. When you're done, put the clothes in the tumble dryer and dry on standard settings.
