If you have a variety of small items to store, but don't want to buy permanent storage, you can make your own storage shelves out of cardboard and add more later when you need to store more. This cardboard storage rack is not the strongest and the best. However, these cardboard shelves are flexible, easy to build, and inexpensive; and this could be the system you're looking for!
Step
Step 1. Prepare the cardboard
You can buy it from the internet if you don't get it at a store near your house. The size of the cardboard needed is according to your taste, as long as one cardboard cube (compartment) can contain four long boxes (drawers). The following are examples of recommended sizes and quantities:
-
25 to 500 cardboard cubes measuring 33 x 33 x 33 cm
-
25 to 900 long cardboard measuring 30 x 15 x 15 cm
Step 2. Assemble the cardboard cubes into a shelf
-
Cut the lid off one side of the cardboard.
-
Tape the cardboard cubes with tape on the front, back, and sides.
-
When finished gluing, stand the shelf by leaning against the wall.
Step 3. Assemble the long cardboard that will be the drawer
Cut the ends to the square holes. Each compartment can contain four drawers.
Step 4. Put the items in the drawer
-
Write a description of the contents of the box on the front. Then, insert the drawers in order to keep them tidy.
- You can arrange them alphabetically.
- You can also arrange the drawers so that the items you use most often are at hand and are easiest to reach, while the items you use less frequently are lower or higher.
-
Insert the drawer into the compartment.
-
Use compartments without drawers to store larger items.
- Use other small containers to store small items. For example, cans packaging tennis balls. Try looking at the nearest tennis club, maybe there you can get a tennis ball container for free.
Tips
-
If the can is almost full and you are afraid that the object stored in it will fall, you can attach a holder under the lid to prevent the object stored in the can from falling.
- You also need to consider the rigidity of the shelf structure. You can strengthen the structure by adding some kind of steel structure to some of the compartments. You can also glue a piece of cardboard (use a piece of lid) all over the sides or between the layers of the compartment.
- Use the lid pieces to create a divider in the box, for example take six lid pieces, mark them in three parts, then cut only half of them on the same side. Once everything is cut in half, tuck it across the cut sections (they will look like the dividers in a wine cabinet). This type of separator is suitable for larger cardboard compartments. You will have a box with nine smaller and shallower compartments. This kind of box is ideal for storing stockings, scarves, yarn or rolls of paper. In addition to making all parts of the cardboard usable and neater, this kind of divider is able to strengthen the shelf from the inside.
Warning
- Store heavy items at the bottom.
- To prevent this cardboard shelf from falling or collapsing, attach it to the wall. Take the bolts and nuts, choose the appropriate size so that the bolt does not come off. Attach the bolt to the nut, then screw it through the back of the top cardboard (at least the top three) into a board in the wall, or a pre-installed bolt holder.
