You must be sad when you see your clothes shrink after washing. Maybe you're thinking about getting rid of rugs, clothing, or other rayon items that have shrunk in size. However, you can easily restore the size of the rayon at home using baby shampoo and water. Once the rayon has returned to its original size, take precautions when you wash it again later. Doing so will keep your rayon fabric from changing its size for a long time.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Soaking Rayon
Step 1. Put water and baby shampoo in a bucket
Prepare a bucket large enough to completely submerge the rayon. Add warm water and a cap of baby shampoo bottle, then stir the two ingredients until well blended.
Step 2. Soak and massage the rayon cloth
Add the rayon to the water. When soaking, gently massage the rayon with your hands. Dip a mixture of water and shampoo into the rayon to loosen the fibers. Continue to soak and massage the rayon until the mixture is absorbed. The time it takes to do this will vary depending on the size of the fabric.
This is done so that the mixture is completely absorbed into all the fibers of the fabric. So, continue to massage until the rayon is completely wet
Step 3. Rinse the rayon using cold water
Remove the rayon from the water, then rinse with cold water to remove any remaining baby shampoo. After rinsing, gently press the garment to remove any remaining liquid. Just press the cloth, don't wring it. If squeezed, the fibers of the fabric can be damaged.
Part 2 of 3: Stretching Rayon
Step 1. Place the rayon on a towel or cloth
Lay out a towel or cloth on a flat surface. Lay and stretch the rayon on a towel.
Step 2. Roll the rayon in a towel or cloth
Roll up the towel used to place the rayon. Roll up the towel with the rayon in it tightly. Once rolled up, gently press the towel to remove any excess liquid that is in the rayon.
Step 3. Return the rayon to its original shape
Unroll the towel until the rayon is flat again. Shape the rayon to its original size by hand. There is no special or secret method to do it. All you have to do is stretch the rayon by hand as needed to bring it back to its original size. The time required will vary depending on the severity of the shrinkage.
Be careful not to stretch the rayon beyond its original size. Of course you don't want to get into any more trouble when it comes to returning shrunken fabric
Step 4. Dry the rayon on a flat surface
Once you've stretched it as needed, transfer the rayon to a dry towel. Place the towel and rayon flat (as you did in the beginning), and allow the fabric to dry.
- To speed up drying, turn on a fan in the room.
- Dry the rayon in a room where family members or pets are unlikely to disturb it.
Part 3 of 3: Preventing Rayon from Shrinking in the Future
Step 1. Do dry cleaning on the rayon if possible
Rayon is a delicate type of fabric that is very susceptible to damage when washed and dried. If possible, bring clothes or items from another rayon to the laundry. This can prevent stretching and shrinking over time.
If you have items that are labeled "dry clean only", never wash them yourself at home
Step 2. Wash the rayon in cold water on a gentle cycle
If you want to wash your own rayon at home, do this gently. Wash in cold water and on a gentle washing machine. Before washing, you should also place the rayon in a mesh bag to protect it.
Step 3. Allow the rayon to dry
We recommend that you dry the rayon on a flat surface to prevent the fabric from shrinking. If you still want to dry it in the dryer, place the rayon in a mesh bag first. Do not dry it in one full cycle. Only dry the rayon for about half a regular round and allow it to air dry.
