When packing when you are going to travel, as much as possible avoid wrinkles on the clothes so you don't have to iron again after arriving at your destination. Packing a shirt must be done carefully by wrapping it in a folded shirt. Try this three-step process for your next business journey.

Step

Part 1 of 3: Folding T-shirts

Step 1. Find a clean, wide table to fold your T-shirt on

Step 2. Wipe the shirt so it doesn't wrinkle with the front facing down

Step 3. Fold the right sleeve and shirt vertically so that the edge of the sleeve meets the center of the shirt

Step 4. Repeat, folding the left arm and the left side of the shirt until they meet the right arm in the center of the shirt

Step 5. Fold the bottom edge up until it meets the top edge of the shirt

Fold it in half again from the bottom to make it smaller.

  • If the shirt is small, you don't need to fold it horizontally twice.

Step 6. Turn the folded shirt over and lay it on the edge of your table

Part 2 of 3: Folding Shirts

Step 1. Button your shirt from the bottom to the top

Step 2. Place it face down on the table

Wipe with your arm to the side. Always wipe the shirt to remove wrinkles at each step of this process. Every wrinkle you make when folding will be clearly visible when you arrive at your destination.

Step 3. Fold the right sleeve vertically to the center of the shirt

The hem of the sleeve should be parallel to the edge of the shirt, not beveled. Fold it slightly past the center of the shirt, around the end of the left collar.

Step 4. Repeat on the left arm, folding it vertically and placing it over the right arm

Fold it until it reaches an imaginary line under the right collar. Wipe the sleeves downwards.

Step 5. Fold the right side of the shirt to the center of the shirt

Grab the shoulders and bottom edge of the shirt and fold them vertically into the center.

Step 6. Repeat on the left

Fold the edges of the shirt to the center. In a fitted shirt, the two sides of the shirt will meet above the back, but not necessarily at the bottom.

Step 7. Fold in half horizontally once or twice, if you want to fold without wrapping your shirt

Skip this step if you plan to wrap your shirt in a suitcase to reduce the chances of the shirt getting wrinkled.

Step 1. Place the folded shirt on top of the shirt

Place it over the folded bottom of the shirt.

Step 2. Fold the top of the shirt down, wrapping the shirt

Wipe it. By wrapping it, your clothes will be neater and avoid wrinkle.

Step 3. Place socks, underwear, and other rolled up clothes at the bottom of your suitcase

Then, lay your previously wrapped t-shirt and shirt in a single layer on top. Lay them alternately with the collars on different edges if you want to pack them in multiple layers.

Tips

  • After you have packed your clothes in layers, cover them with a dry cleaning bag. This plastic will allow clothes to move without creasing them in transit.
  • You can also wrap a folded t-shirt in trousers to reduce creases. Smooth the trousers with one side facing up. Place your t-shirt in the center and roll the bottom of the trousers up and the top of the pants down to form a third layer.
