You've lived too long robbing villagers and killing cows, now it's time for you to get a stable meal. You have to farm. Make a hoe, look for soil and water. You are ready to grow your own food. From harvesting, you will also get seeds to continue that farming cycle. In addition, you can also direct the animals to your residence.

Step

Part 1 of 2: Growing Seeds

Step 1. Collect seeds (seed)

In Minecraft Pocket Edition, there are four different types of seeds that you can grow. You can get all four.

  • Wheat seeds can be obtained by chopping a block of grass with a hoe or using shears on tall grass (version 0.4 or higher).
  • You can get beetroot seeds by harvesting the red beet crop on the villagers' farm (version 0.12.0 build 8+), or mowing the grass as described above (in earlier versions).
  • Pumpkins (pumpkins) usually grow in dry areas, savannas, or taiga. Enter the pumpkin in the Crafting table to get the seeds (version 0.8+).
  • Melon grows in the forest. You can get the seeds by placing a melon on the Crafting table. You will get melon pieces this way. Then, re-place these melon pieces to get the seeds (version 0.9+).

Step 2. Avoid overly hot or cold biomes

Your grains will grow faster in warmer biomes where green grass and trees grow naturally. While seeds can grow anywhere, here are places where your seed growth will be slow:

  • Snow
  • Snow covered leaves
  • Steep mountainous area
  • Sand, except the beach
  • Yellow grass

Step 3. Prepare the farmland

Take your hoe, then use it on the grass or soil to make farmland. This soil is marked with parallel lines on its surface.

Step 4. Water the farmland

Wheat germ will grow faster on farmland that has been watered. Other grains won't even grow unless watered. Your farm will appear waterlogged (appear darker) if there are water blocks on any side of the four blocks surrounding a farm. Your grain will grow faster within a three-block radius of the water block. At the start of the game, build a farm right next to the water. Once you have a bucket, you can move this water more efficiently.

  • Most efficient: make a 9x9 farm, then dig a block in the very center, and fill the hole with water.
  • Not very efficient, but more interesting: set up three rows of farmland, one row of water, three rows of farmland, one row of water, then three rows of farmland, and so on.

Step 5. Wait for it to grow

The seed will grow by itself through several stages of growth. Here are signs that your plants are fully grown and ready to be harvested.

  • Wheat is ready to be harvested when it is tall and looks brownish yellow.
  • Red beetroot is ready to be harvested when the leaves are bushy and tall.
  • Melons and pumpkins are ready to be harvested when the fruit appears on the block right next to the roots.

Step 6. Harvest

Click and hold on the plant to pick up the fruit. There is also the opportunity to get seeds from wheat and beetroot. With these seeds, you can create new fields.

  • Melons and pumpkins do not need to be replanted. Just take the fruit, leave the root, and new fruit will grow from the root.
  • If you harvest wheat and beetroot before they are fully grown, you may get seeds but not yields.

Part 2 of 2: Improving the Quality of Your Farm

Step 1. Give bone fertilizer (bone meal)

Collect bones by killing skeletons or fishing, then place the bones you find on the Crafting table to make bone meal. Each use of bone meal will instantly increase your plant growth by a random number of levels.

If you are short on seeds, you can do this on the first crop so that you can harvest the seeds from this first crop

Step 2. Surround your farm area with additional farm areas

Once you run out of seeds or water, prepare additional unused field area around the field, one block on all sides. In the computer version of the Minecraft game, adding additional farm blocks will significantly speed up growth. The same goes for the Pocket Edition version of Minecraft.

Step 3. Build a fence on your farm

Monsters walking around can destroy fields. Build fences to protect the fields.

Step 4. Provide sufficient lighting for the fields

Plants will only grow when the field is given adequate lighting. Your plants will grow day and night if you attach a torch every four to five blocks. Of course, this will have no effect at all if you skip the night phase by sleeping.

Surprisingly, in Minecraft, farmland is transparent. You can dig under the field (be careful not to let the water leak) and put a torch there to make your field shine. This is not the case with other versions of Minecraft. There is a high chance that this will be changed in the next game update

Step 5. Cover the water

Your plants will not be damaged if you walk on them, but will return to normal soil if you jump on them. If you fall into the water and have to jump out, you will lose your food. Prevent this by covering the water block with another block or "half" block that doesn't require jumping.

In a cold biome, even closed water will not freeze

Tips

  • Seeds usually sprout within two to three Minecraft days when given enough light and water.
  • The color of plant growth can be more easily seen at the bottom of the plant rather than above.

Warning

  • Don't harvest the fields with tools except your hands because you can destroy them.
  • Farm land is usually flatter than the surrounding area. Create a marker near your farm if your field is not close to home.
