This wikiHow teaches you how to block Facebook using Chrome on a computer. You can do this using the free Block Site or Nanny extension for Google Chrome. You can't block Facebook in the Google Chrome app for mobile devices.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using Block Site
Step 1. Visit the Block Site extension page
The Block Site window will open.
Step 2. Click + ADD TO CHROME
It's a blue button in the upper-right corner of the Block Site window.
Step 3. Click Add extension when prompted
The Block Site extension will be installed in the browser.
Step 4. Refresh Chrome
Click button ⟳ in the upper-left side of the Chrome browser window. Google Chrome will refresh and a Block Site icon will appear on the top right of the Chrome browser.
Step 5. Click the Block Site icon
The icon is a "www" in a slashed circle. It's in the top right of the Google Chrome window. A drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 6. Click Options located in the Block Site drop-down menu
A new tab containing Block Site settings will be opened.
Step 7. Type in the Facebook address
Type into the "Add page" text field. This text field is at the top of the page.
Step 8. Click Add page
It's a green button to the right of the "Add page" text field. Facebook will be added to the Block Site block list. If a computer user wants to visit Facebook, Block Site will open another page.
You can add a second address (eg https://www.youtube.com/) in the " Redirect to " field next to the Facebook address. This second address will be opened when someone wants to try to visit the Facebook site
Step 9. Click Close
It's a blue button at the bottom of the page. Once you do that, the Block site will be closed. Facebook will continue to be blocked if you don't unblock it.
Method 2 of 2: Using Nanny
Step 1. Visit the Nanny extension page
The Nanny window will open.
Step 2. Click + ADD TO CHROME
It's a blue button in the upper-right corner of the Nanny window.
Step 3. Click Add extension when prompted
The Nanny extension will be installed in your browser.
Step 4. Right-click the Nanny icon
It's a clock-shaped icon in the upper-right corner of the Google Chrome window. A drop-down menu will appear after you right-click on the icon.
- If your computer doesn't have a right mouse button, you can use two fingers to tap the trackpad instead of right-clicking.
- On a Mac, press Control, then click the extension's icon.
Step 5. Click Options located at the top of the drop-down menu
Nanny's page will open.
Step 6. Click Blocked URLs
This tab is at the top left of the page.
Step 7. Name the list of blocked URLs
Type the desired name into the " Block Set Name " field at the top of the page.
If you just want to block Facebook, try naming it "Facebook Only" or "Social Media"
Step 8. Type in the Facebook address
Type into the "URL" field.
Step 9. Set the blocking time
Type the start and end time of the block into the " Block Time " text field in military time format (24 hours).
For example, to block a site from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 8 a.m., write 1100-1700, 2100-0800
Step 10. Make sure you have ticked all days
In the "Apply On Days" line, make sure you've ticked the box next to each day of the week you want to block Facebook.
Step 11. Click on Set URL in the lower left corner
Your settings will be saved and Facebook will be blocked for a set period of time.
