This wikiHow teaches you how to change your Apple ID password on a computer or iPhone. If you forget your Apple ID password, you will need to reset it.

Method 1 of 3: Via Website
Step 1. Go to the Apple ID website
Visit https://appleid.apple.com/ via your computer's web browser. This is the official website used to manage Apple ID information, including passwords.
Step 2. Sign in to your Apple ID account
You'll need to sign in to your account using your Apple ID email address and password in the middle of the page, unless you've accessed this website in the last 30 minutes.
If you have two-factor authentication enabled for your account, you will need to verify your login by opening your iPhone, tapping the “ Allow ” when prompted, and enter the six-digit code displayed in the computer's text field.
Step 3. Scroll to the "Security" section of the screen
This segment is at the top of the page.
Step 4. Click Change Password…
This option is in the " Security " section. Once clicked, a drop-down menu will appear.
Step 5. Enter the current Apple ID password
In the top text field of the drop-down menu, type the password you use to sign in to your Apple ID page.
Step 6. Enter the new password twice
Click the " new password " text field and type in the new password you want to use, then click the " confirm password " text field and re-enter the password.
- The two password entries must match before you can move on to the next step.
- Passwords must be at least eight characters long, and contain at least one number, one uppercase letter, and one lowercase letter.
Step 7. Click Change Password…
It's at the bottom of the drop-down menu. After that, the Apple ID password will be changed.
Method 2 of 3: Via Mac Computer
Step 1. Open Apple menu
Click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of the screen. After that, a drop-down menu will be displayed.
Step 2. Click System Preferences…
It's at the top of the Apple menu. Once clicked, the “System Preferences” window will be displayed.
Step 3. Click iCloud
This option is in the “System Preferences” window. The “iCloud” window will be displayed.
Step 4. Click Account Details
It's on the left side of the window.
Step 5. Click Security
It's a tab at the top of the window.
Step 6. Click Change Password…
It's a gray button at the top of the window. After that, a pop-up window will be displayed.
Step 7. Enter the new password twice
Type the desired password into the " New " text field, then click the " Verify " text field and re-enter the password.
- The two password entries must match before you can move on to the next step.
- Passwords must be at least eight characters long, and contain at least one number, one uppercase letter, and one lowercase letter.
Step 8. Click Change Password
It's a blue button at the bottom of the window. After that, the Apple ID password will be changed.
Method 3 of 3: Via iPhone
Step 1. Open the device settings menu
(“Settings”).
Tap the “Settings” app icon which looks like a series of gears on a gray background.
Step 2. Touch Apple ID
The ID is displayed at the top of the screen.
Step 3. Touch Password & Security
You can see this option at the top of the page.
Step 4. Touch Change Password
It's at the top of the page.
Step 5. Enter the device passcode when prompted
This code is the code used to unlock the phone. After that, the password entry page will be displayed.
Step 6. Enter the new password twice
Type the new password into the " New " field, touch the " Verify " text field, and type the password again.
- The two password entries must match before you can proceed with the process.
- Passwords must be at least eight characters long, and contain at least one number, one uppercase letter, and one lowercase letter.
Step 7. Touch Change
It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Step 8. Decide if you want to sign out of the Apple ID on the connected devices
When prompted, touch “ Sign Out Other Devices ” to sign out of the account on Apple devices (e.g. iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, etc.) that still use the old Apple ID password, or touch “ Don't Sign Out ” to skip this step.
