This article teaches you how to convert an Apple Numbers document into a Microsoft Excel (. XLS) file on Mac, Windows, and iPhone, as well as on the iCloud website.

Method 1 of 4: Using iCloud
Step 1. Go to https://www.icloud.com/ in a web browser
You can access your iCloud account from any browser, including Opera and Internet Explorer.
Step 2. Enter your Apple ID email address and password
You must have both to be able to log in to the App Store.
If you don't have an Apple ID, create one first
Step 3. Click
Numbers.
Look for the green icon with white bars.
Step 4. Open the Numbers document
If the file is in iCloud, it will appear on the Numbers page.
If you want to upload a document from the desktop, click the green gear icon, then click Upload a Spreadsheet, and select your Numbers document.
Step 5. Click the wrench icon
It is located at the top right of the document page.
Step 6. Click Download a Copy
It's located at the very top of the dropdown menu.
Step 7. Click Excel
It's on the right side of the Download a Copy window. This will download the.xls version of the Numbers file to your computer.
Method 2 of 4: Using a Mac
Step 1. Make sure your Numbers document is open
"Numbers" should appear in the upper-left corner of your Mac's menu bar.
Step 2. Click File
It's in the upper-left area of your Mac's screen. This will open a drop-down menu.
Step 3. Select Export To
This option is in the middle of the dropdown menu File. Thus, a pop-out menu will appear.
Step 4. Click Excel
It's in the pop-out menu Export To.
Step 5. Click Next
It's in the lower-right corner of the "Export Your Spreadsheet" window.
Step 6. Enter your file name
This is the name that will appear in Numbers and Excel.
Step 7. Select a save location
To do this, click a folder (for example, the "Desktop" folder).
Step 8. Click Export
It's in the lower right corner of the window. This will save your Numbers document as an Excel file. You can double-click the document on a computer with the Excel program installed.
Method 3 of 4: Using Windows
Step 1. Go to the CloudConvert website
Enter https://cloudconvert.com/numbers-to-xlsx into your browser's address bar. While there is no built-in program capable of converting Excel documents into Numbers, you can use CloudConvert to do so.
Step 2. Click Select Files
It's located near the top of the page. This will open a file selection window.
Step 3. Select the Numbers file
The file selection window will likely show your desktop folder. So, if the file isn't there, go to the Numbers file location via the sidebar on the left.
Step 4. Click Open
This will upload the Numbers file to the CloudConvert website.
Step 5. Click select format
It's at the top of the page. Thus, a drop-down menu will appear.
Blade select format may already display the words ".xls" or ".xlsx". If so, just skip the following two steps.
Step 6. Select Sheets
It's at the bottom of the "file selection" drop-down menu.
Step 7. Click xls or xlsx.
XLS is an extension of older versions of Excel documents, while XLSX documents are formatted for the latest versions of Excel.
Step 8. Click Start Conversion
Click the red button in the lower right corner of the page to convert the Numbers document into an Excel file in the selected format.
Step 9. Click Download
It's a green button at the top right of the page. Thus, the converted document will be downloaded in Excel format.
You can double-click on the Excel document you just converted to open it in Excel that has the Excel program
Method 4 of 4: Using iPhone
Step 1. Open the Numbers app

Step 2. Select the document you want to open
You may first need to tap the " Back " button in the upper left corner of the screen if Numbers opens an existing document.
Step 3. Tap…
It's in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 4. Tap Send a Copy
This option is near the top of the screen.
Step 5. Tap Excel
It's located at the bottom left of the page.
Step 6. Tap Mail
Look for the letter icon, which resembles a white envelope on a light blue background, in the top row of the pop-up menu at the bottom of the screen..
Step 7. Enter your email address
Fill in the box that says " To " at the top of the screen.
Step 8. Tap Send in the upper right corner of the screen
This way, you send a Numbers document in. XLS format to your email inbox so that it can be downloaded to a computer with Excel installed.
Tips
- If you have a cloud option (such as Google Drive or iCloud Drive) available on your iPhone or iPad, you can select it from the pop-up menu where you find Mail. Upload your Excel document to a cloud service so that it can be downloaded from the Cloud instead of email.
- Recent versions of Excel documents are saved in.xlsx format instead of.xls.
