Drawing houses is a fun way to use your imagination and put your skills into practice. However, sometimes it's hard to know where to start. Fortunately, drawing a two- or three-dimensional house is simple if you know what to do. Once you've mastered the basic premise, you can start customizing and adding personal touches to drawing your own unique home!
Step
Method 1 of 2: Draw a Two-Dimensional House
Step 1. Draw a rectangle
This first rectangle will be the frame of the house. The exact proportions are free, but don't make it too long and thin as the house won't look realistic.
Use a ruler to draw a rectangle so that all the lines are neat and straight
Step 2. Make a triangle on top of the rectangle as the roof of the house
The base of the triangle should be parallel to the top of the rectangle. Make a triangle wide enough so that the bottom corners extend beyond the sides of the rectangle.
The height of the triangle should be approximately the same as the height of the rectangle. If it is too high, the roof of the house will not look realistic
Step 3. Add a chimney and some horizontal panels to the roof
To make the chimney, draw a tall, skinny rectangle on the left side of the roof. Then, create a smaller horizontal rectangle above it. To make the roof panels, draw horizontal lines evenly spaced from one side to the other.
The number of panels is free, but give equal spacing between each panel
Step 4. Draw a pair of windows on the front of the house
To draw a window, make a rectangle, then draw a horizontal and vertical line in the middle to divide it into four parts. After that, create a thin horizontal rectangle at the bottom, as a window sill.
You can draw as many windows as you want, but leave room for the doors
Step 5. Make a vertical rectangle at the front of the house as a door
Doors should start from under the house and stop before the roof. You can also draw a circle in the middle of the door as a knob.
If you want your house to have stairs, draw a thin horizontal rectangle under the door
Step 6. Color the house to complete the picture
There is no such thing as "wrong" or "right" in house coloring. So get creative! If you want a home that looks realistic, choose basic colors like white, brown, gray, and black. If you want your home to look fun and colorful, experiment with colors like red, blue, green, and yellow.
Method 2 of 2: Drawing a Three-Dimensional House
Step 1. Draw a cube
The cube will be the basic framework for your three-dimensional house. To draw a cube, start by making a thin horizontal rhombus. After that, draw a vertical line downward from the 3 lowest points on the rhombus. Finally, connect the end of the vertical line in the middle to the end of the 2 vertical lines next to it.
The proportions of the cube don't need to be exact, but make sure it's not too short and narrow, and neither too high nor too wide because the house will look unrealistic
Step 2. Make a side roof on top of the cube
To draw the side roof, start by drawing a straight line sloping from the center corner of the cube. To create the sides of the cube, draw a line that is the same length as the vertical line previously drawn. After that, draw parallel lines from the right side of the cube that are the same length. Finally, connect the ends of the two lines with a straight line.
When you're done, erase the extra lines that were inside the shape you just drew
Step 3. Connect the top left corner of the cube with the roof corner
Draw a straight line between the 2 points to cover the roof. The line should be slanted.
Erase the lines that are inside the frame of the house
Step 4. Add windows and doors on both sides of the house
To make the windows, draw small vertical rectangles along the sides of the house. Make sure they are evenly spaced and leave room for the door. To make the door, draw a vertical rectangle that extends from the bottom of the house to the top, and aligns its height with the top of the window.
You can also add a small square window in the center of the gable (the triangular part of the wall that supports the roof), if you want
Step 5. Draw the final details to complete the house
You can draw crossed lines on the sides of the roof to make shingles, and draw a chimney at the top. To make the doors and windows look more realistic, color them and make small circles on the doors as knobs. Add a fence and draw some trees to give the house a yard.
- Once the basic structure of the house is established, you can adjust it by adding a new room, garage, more doors, or any other additions that you think the house should have.
- You can also color the house after you've finished drawing it to make it stand out.
