Geode is a very attractive stone with beautiful cavities filled with crystals. Geode in Indonesia, this stone was found in the Prambanan and Kulon Progo areas - Yogyakarta. However, in fact this stone can be found almost anywhere. Geodes can contain many types of rock including amethyst, quartz, carnelian, nephrite, etc.
Although they look very similar to other similar rocks, there are some key differences in the geode.
Step
Step 1. Shape
Look for stones that are round or oval in shape. Rocks with sharp, pointed edges usually don't contain a geode, no matter how often you hammer the surface
Step 2. Bulge
Look for stones with bumpy surfaces, which look a bit like cauliflower
Step 3. Hit the rock open with a mine hammer
There's no easy way to determine what's inside the lumpy cobblestone until you open it.
Step 4. Use trusted bookmark maps when searching for geodes
Geologists are more experienced than you and able to point out where geodes can be found.
Step 5. Cut and polish the geode to bring out its beauty
Tips
- You can also pat the stone to see if it contains a geode, the geode will sound hollow when tapped due to the crystal content.
- Pay attention to your surroundings and never hunt for rocks, explore, or enter caves alone. No stone is worth your life or safety.
- Stones that are lighter than they appear may be geodes because these stones have cavities in them so they are lighter in weight.
- Check the outer surface of the stone. If you're lucky, a slight tinge of crystal color will appear.
