Bad odors can stick to your hands, whether you're filling up gas, cooking onions, or bleaching clothes. Fortunately, there are a variety of home remedies you can try to keep your hands fresh and clean again.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Quick Steps
Step 1. Clean hands with soap and cold water
Always use cold water when washing your hands because hot water can widen your skin pores and allow odor-causing oils and dirt to penetrate deeper. Cover both hands with soap and rub them thoroughly before rinsing with cold water.
Step 2. Flush your hands with an antiseptic mouthwash
In addition to neutralizing odor-causing substances, mouthwash can kill odor-causing bacteria on hands. Scented mouthwash products can even give your hands a fresh mint scent to cover up any remaining odors.
Step 3. Remove odors from hands by rubbing your hands on a stainless steel object
Simply take a stainless steel object (eg silver cutlery or dough bowl) and rub it on your hands under cold running water. Keep rubbing the object against your hands until the odor is neutralized.
- Anything made of stainless steel can be used for this method, including the sink (if you are using a stainless steel sink).
- You can buy a stainless steel bar soap that is specially formulated to remove odors from your hands.
- This method is suitable for removing garlic or onion odor from hands.
Step 4. Rinse your hands in vinegar to get rid of the smell
When rinsing your hands with vinegar, you don't need to rub your hands together. Just sprinkle vinegar on your hands and dry them by aerating them. If you want to reduce the smell of vinegar, you can wash your hands with soap and water afterward.
Vinegar is a great way to get rid of the smell of leftover fish or onions
Step 5. Clean and scrub your hands with alcohol or hand sanitizer
Pour in 5 ml of alcohol or hand sanitizer and rub your hands together until the alcohol or gel evaporates and your hands are dry.
Since alcohol makes your hands very dry, it's a good idea to try this method once and switch to another method if the smell persists
Method 2 of 3: Making Scrub and Pasta
Step 1. Use a small amount of toothpaste on your hands to get rid of the odor
Dispense a small amount of toothpaste (products containing baking soda are best) on your hands and rub your hands together. After rubbing your hands for a few minutes, rinse your hands with clean water.
Step 2. Make a scrub by rubbing wet salt on both hands
Pour a little salt and rub it on both hands. You will need to moisten the salt with water to increase its stickiness. When you're done, rinse your hands with water and pat them dry.
You can also coat your hands with dish soap before sprinkling the salt. Rub your hands together to get rid of the odor, and rinse with clean water when you're done
Step 3. Coat your hands with ground coffee to keep your hands smelling fresh
If you don't mind (or actually like) the smell of coffee on your hands, use ground coffee to get rid of bad odors. Coat all hands with ground coffee and carefully rub both hands in a bowl of water. Alternatively, you can also rub coffee beans on your hands until the unpleasant odor disappears.
Step 4. Make a paste of baking soda and water in a ratio of 1:3
Mix baking soda and water in a 1:3 ratio in a bowl to make a paste. Rub the paste on your hands thoroughly for at least 1 minute. Rinse hands with clean water afterward.
Method 3 of 3: Hand Soaking
Step 1. Mix hydrogen peroxide and water in a ratio of 1:3
By mixing hydrogen peroxide and water, you can make a hand-safe disinfectant solution. Soak your hands in the mixture for 1-3 minutes, and rinse with cold water before draining.
Step 2. Neutralize hand odor with lemon or lime juice
Lemon juice can be used directly or diluted with water to reduce its harsh effects on the skin. You can also use lime juice. Just squeeze and pour lemon/lime juice into a bowl of water and soak your hands in the mixture.
A mixture of lemon or lime juice and water in a 1:1 ratio: is an effective ingredient for soaking your hands
Step 3. Add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of vinegar to the water for a thinner medium
Fill a small bowl with plain water and add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of vinegar. Soak your hands in the mixture for 2-3 minutes. Rinse hands with clean water afterward.
