Hearthfire is an add-on to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that allows players to adopt orphaned children, and build houses, structures and furniture from scratch. Players can only start Hearthfire after talking to Jarl in Morthal, Dawnstar, and Falkreath and completing the given quest (mission).
Step
Step 1. Run the Hearthfire add-on
A messenger will send a letter telling them about land that can be purchased.
Step 2. Visit Jarl's Hall at Dawnstar, Falkreath or Morthal
The Jarls in these cities will sell you a patch of land that you can buy.
Step 3. Talk to Jarl
Jarl will give you a quest to complete before you can buy land..
Step 4. Complete the quest given by Jarl
The missions given vary depending on the city. For example, if you talk to Jarl in Falkreath, you will be asked to kill the bandit boss in Bilegulch Mine.
Step 5. Talk to Jarl again after completing the quest
The Jarl will give you the title Thane, and now you have the right to buy land within the Jarl's territory.
Step 6. Talk to Jarl to select the land purchase option
The Jarl will send his servant to talk to you about the sale of the land.
Step 7. Tell the waiter that you want to buy land
The land purchase cost was 5,000 gold.
Step 8. Select the option to buy land
The steward will give you your land deed.
Step 9. Use the map to locate the land purchased from the Jarl
When you get there, there is a set of equipment and guides available. Now you can build a house and adopt children in the Hearthfire expansion.
Tips
Consider making Housecarl a servant after buying a plot of land from the jarl. That way, you can buy wood, stone, and clay directly from Housecarl.
