The type of Pokémon you use greatly affects how you have to fight. Each Pokémon has its own advantages and disadvantages, which can make it very strong or completely useless under certain circumstances. Keep reading if you're having trouble remembering the pros and cons of each type of Pokémon or just want to deepen your knowledge.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Remembering the Advantages
Step 1. Use words that are easy to remember
These poems will help you remember all the strengths and weaknesses of the existing Pokémon, and might even work if you have homework to memorize a poem! You can use it up to the X/Y version of Pokémon.
- Normal is what it is.
- Burn Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel with Fire.
- Water drowns Ground, Rock, and Fire.
- Those who fly and swim, all roasted Electric.
- Flying defeats Grass and Bugs, Fighting panics.
- Bugs eat Grass, Dark, and Psychic.
- Grass absorbs Water and splits Ground and Rock.
- Fire, Ice, Flying, and Bug were crushed by Rock.
- Ice froze the ground and air, Dragon closed its muzzle.
- Dragon prey other Dragon.
- Normal, Ice, Rock, Dark and Steel are not strong against Fighting.
- When fighting Fairy, Grass and Bug, Poison is important.
- Ghost is feared by Psychic, as well as by Ghost himself.
- Steel brackets Ice, Rock, and Fairy.
- Ground shaking, destroying Rock, Poison, Fire, Steel, and Electric.
- Fighting and Poison run out against Psychic.
- Against Dark, Psychic and Ghost ran.
- Fighting, Dragon, and Dark, bewitched Fairy.
- Those are all the weaknesses you should keep in mind.
- If you remember fighting with passion!
Part 2 of 3: Understanding Weaknesses
Step 1. Understand Fire's weakness
Fire cannot burn water, earth, or rock, therefore Fire is weak against Water, Ground, and Rock.
Step 2. Understand the weakness of Water (water)
Electricity can conduct through water and grass absorbs water, so Water is weak against Electric and Grass.
Step 3. Understand the weaknesses of Electric (electricity)
Electricity cannot conduct through the ground, therefore Electric is weak to Ground.
Step 4. Understand the weakness of Grass (grass)
Grass is weak against things that can kill it in the real world (fire, ice, insects, poison), hence Grass is weak against Fire, Ice, Bugs, and Poison. Although not sure, but suppose this type is weak against Flying because birds can throw dirt on the grass and just walk away.
Step 5. Understand Ice's weakness (ice)
Ice can be melted by fire and can break if hit hard (Fighting), including iron tools, and stones, therefore Ice is weak against Fire, Fighting, and Steel.
Step 6. Understand Fighting weaknesses
This type becomes weak when feeling afraid (Psychic type), and cannot reach flying enemies, so Fighting is weak against Psychic and Flying. Despite this, Fighting is made weak against Fairy as the game's counterweight. You can also assume that no amount of physical force can win against nature.
Step 7. Understand Poison's weakness
Poison can be absorbed by the ground and cannot poison what is not real (Psychic), hence Poison is weak against Ground and Psychic.
Step 8. Understand the Ground's weakness
Ground can be damaged by water, ice and grass in real life, hence Ground is weak against Water, Ice, and Grass.
Step 9. Understand Flying's weaknesses
This type is easily injured by things that can injure flying creatures, such as lightning, hail, or rocks, so Flying is weak against Electric, Ice, and Rock.
Step 10. Understand Psychic weakness (psychic)
This type is easily hurt by things that can scare you (insects, darkness, and ghosts), so Psychic is weak against Bugs, Darks, and Ghosts. This is one of the types whose weaknesses are most easily remembered.
Step 11. Understand Bug's weaknesses (insects)
This type is easily injured by things that can hurt insects in the real world (birds, fire, and rocks), hence Bugs are weak against Bird, Fire, and Rock.
Step 12. Understand Rock's weakness
This type is easily injured by things that can destroy rock in the real world (water, grass, impact, earth, and iron), so Rock is weak against Water, Grass, Fighting, Ground, and Steel.
Step 13. Understand Ghost's weakness
Ghosts fight using ways unknown to living things. Even so, creatures of darkness (Dark) also know these ways, so Ghost is weak against Dark and himself.
Step 14. Understand the Dragon's weakness (dragon)
Dragons are very strong animals, and are only weak against other dragons or forces of nature (as represented by Fairy). This shows that even the strongest beings depend on nature. Since dragons are often classified as reptiles, they are also weak against cold, hence Dragons are weak against Fairy and Ice.
Step 15. Understand the weakness of Steel (steel)
Steel is weak against two things used in its manufacturing process, namely impact and fire, as well as against soils containing steel raw materials, therefore Steel is weak against Fire, Fighting, and Ground.
Step 16. Understand Dark's weakness
Darkness has a cunning or evil nature, which can be defeated by direct combat, disciplined technique, and kindness, hence Dark is weak against Fighting, and Fairy. Although the strengths and weaknesses of this type contain an element of "good always wins over evil", Dark is also given a weakness against Bugs to balance the game. You could also assume this is because insects look small and cute and darkness is big and evil, why not?
Step 17. Understand Fairy's weaknesses
Fairies are the embodiment of the power of nature. Even so, this type is easily injured by something unnatural or can damage nature, such as man-made steel or pollution, so Fairy is weak to Steel and Poison.
Part 3 of 3: Leveraging Other Factors
Step 1. Don't underestimate an ineffective attack
There are certain types of Pokémon that are completely ineffective against certain types. While there are some types that are easy to remember because they make sense (Nomal and Ghost can't fight, Ground can't touch Flying, and so on), don't let real-world logic catch you off guard. Of course you don't want to be surprised when your attacks don't work.
Step 2. Take advantage of attacks that are of the same type as your Pokémon
In the game, when you use an attack of the same type as the Pokémon's, the attack power will increase by 50%. For example, Steel Pokémon like Aron will get a bonus when using Metal Claw which is also Steel type. Try to keep taking advantage of these bonuses to make any battle a lot easier.
Step 3. Pay attention to the weather conditions
Weather can affect a Pokémon's performance during battle. For example, Intense Sunlight will increase the power of Fire-type Pokémon and reduce the power of Water-type Pokémon.
Step 4. Get special abilities
Certain abilities can injure your Pokémon during combat, depending on its type. For example, Levitate can be used to weaken Pokémon Ground's attacks. Use abilities that can help and pay attention to abilities that can be fatal to your Pokémon. Run if the enemy uses an ability that can kill your Pokémon easily!
Step 5. Get special items
There are grip items that can increase attack power, but there are also items that can increase the power of certain types of Pokémon. For example, the Black Belt can increase the strength of the Fighting type.
Tips
The more you play, the easier it will be to remember the pros and cons of each type. Experience is the best teacher
Warning
- If something happens that you didn't expect during a fight, try to pause and find out why. It's possible that you are using the wrong type.
- Be careful when trying to catch a Pokémon, making sure the Pokémon you're using won't kill it in one hit.
