Are you looking for a new Pokémon game? Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald are considered the best Pokémon games in the series, and the Hoenn area is a good place for people from the Johto or Kanto area to visit. There are slight differences between Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, but there are considerable changes to certain formulas in Pokémon Emerald.
Step
Part 1 of 2: Ruby and Sapphire
Step 1. Find out which Pokémon can only be found in Ruby
The only big difference between Ruby and Sapphire is the presence of certain Pokémon (with slight differences in storylines and characters). Here's a list of Pokémon that are exclusive to Pokémon Ruby.
Pokedex # | Pokémon | Type |
---|---|---|
273 | Seedot | Grass |
274 | Nuzleaf | Grass/Dark |
275 | Shiftry | Grass/Dark |
303 | Mawile | Steel |
335 | Zangoose | Normal |
338 | Solrock | Rock/Psychic |
383 | Groudon | Ground |
Step 2. Find out what Pokémon can be found in Sapphire
Here is a list of Pokémon that are exclusive to Pokémon Sapphire.
Pokedex # | Pokémon | Type |
---|---|---|
270 | Lotad | Water/Grass |
271 | Lombre | Water/Grass |
272 | Ludicolo | Water/Grass |
302 | Sableye | Dark/Ghost |
336 | Seviper | Poison |
337 | Lunatone | Rock/Psychic |
382 | Kyogre | Water |
Step 3. Make choices based on the presence of the legendary Pokémon
The biggest difference between Ruby and Sapphire is which main Legendary Pokémon you want to get out of the two.
In Emerald, you can get both, and there are also some pretty significant changes to the basics of the game
Part 2 of 2: Emerald
Step 1. Find out which Pokémon cannot be found in Pokémon Emerald
All Pokémon from Ruby and Sapphire are available in Pokémon Emerald, except for the following Pokémon. The Pokémon listed below cannot be found in the wild. To get it, you have to trade it from other Generation III games.
Pokedex # | Pokémon | Type |
---|---|---|
283 | Surskit | Bugs/Water |
284 | Masquerain | Bugs/Flying |
307 | Meditite | Fighting/Psychic |
308 | Medicham | Fighting/Psychic |
315 | Roselia | Grass/Poison |
335 | Zangoose | Normal |
337 | Lunatone | Rock/Psychic |
Step 2. Select Emerald if you want to access Battle Frontier
The Battle Frontier is available after you defeat the Elite Four and the Pokémon Champion. In it, there is a lot of additional content and the most difficult challenges in the game.
The Battle Frontier is also the only place you can catch Sudowoodo and Smeargle
Step 3. Choose Emerald if you want to re-challenge the Gym Leaders
Emerald introduces a feature to re-challenge a Gym Leader you've defeated before. The Gym Leaders have become stronger and even have different Pokémon. Some of them even have Pokémon from other regions.
Step 4. Choose Emerald if you want to take on a challenge
There are many parts of the game that have been made more challenging. This is most pronounced when you're trying to get your hands on legendary Pokémon (Kyogre and Groudon), as they are both 20 levels higher than in Ruby and Sapphire.
There are also many Gym Leader battles that become more difficult in Pokémon Emerald
Step 5. Select Emerald if you want the game in "definitive version"
Pokémon Emerald is a slightly modified and adjusted version of the game based on Ruby and Sapphire.
- In Emerald, you can catch Kyogre and Groudon.
- Rayquaza has a much more important role in the storyline, and Rayquaza is also the first legendary Pokémon you'll get.
- Team Magma and Team Aqua are presented as opponents.
- You can get one of the starter Pokémon from the Johto region (Chikorita, Cyndaquil, or Totodile) after completing the Pokédex.
- There have been minor changes to the appearance and atmosphere of the Hoenn area.
