If you're looking to put a piece of art or a picture of the latest video game on the wall, chances are there is a poster to suit your needs. However, you may not know the best way to paste it. With or without a frame, you can easily paste the poster without damaging the wall or poster!
Step
Method 1 of 2: Paste the Unframed Poster Without Damaging the Poster
Step 1. Clean your hands before starting
Before removing the poster from its container, wash your hands. Even a little oil on your skin can stain the poster, especially the darker parts of the poster.
Step 2. Lay the poster flat
As soon as you remove the poster from the case, the poster will automatically roll up. Under these conditions, the poster will attract whatever adhesive you use and any parts that are not glued will warp. Lay the poster face up horizontally and weight each end. You can straighten the poster this way before sticking it on the wall.
You don't need to do this step if your poster is thick and not rolled up in its container
Step 3. Clean the wall where you will apply the poster
Even if they are never touched, the walls can get dirty. Humidity, dust from heating or air conditioning, and even people breathing in the room can create slippery surfaces that are difficult for posters to stick to. Use a damp towel and a small amount of dish soap to remove any grease that has stuck to the walls.
Try to remember when the room was painted. The glue that you will use to attach the poster will keep the glue-covered wall from oxidizing like the rest of the wall. If the room has just been painted, this will cause a discoloration
Step 4. Use removable adhesive
You have several removable adhesive options. There is a special double-sided tape for attaching posters. You can also choose putty adhesive which is often marketed as a poster tack.
Step 5. Stick the adhesive on the back of the poster
Do not stick the adhesive on the wall and press the poster against it. It is easier to place the poster face down on a clean surface and apply the adhesive to the back of the poster before gluing the poster to the wall. Stick the tape at each end of the poster, in the middle of the poster, and halfway between the two ends of the poster. This process prevents air from the fan or air conditioner from flowing to the back of the poster and causing the poster to fall off the wall.
- If your poster is longer than 61 cm, stick two pieces of tape between the two ends of the poster.
- If you're using a poster tack, take a lump the size of a bubble gum, shape it with your fingers and make it stickier.
Step 6. Paste your poster
Once you've attached the adhesive, you're ready to mount the poster on the wall. Start at the top two ends of the poster and press firmly against the wall. Glue the sides of the poster from top to bottom. Always make sure that the poster is stretched out so that it is not wavy or wrinkled. Finally, press down on the center of the poster that has been glued to make sure the center of the poster sticks well.
If you're worried that your poster is skewed, you can make a mark on the wall first using a pencil and ruler, or when you're attaching it (before pressing the poster against the wall), have your friend stand behind you and direct your poster to be straight
Step 7. Peel off the poster to move it
When you want to remove the poster, don't pull it because the poster will tear. Peel off the back of the poster using your finger starting from the area closest to the adhesive. The greatest stress will be on the adhesive side and not on the poster paper.
Step 8. You can use poster adhesive magnets if you don't want to use sticky stuff
Annoyed by sticky things? Easy! Use magnets! There is a poster adhesive with a very strong magnet to attach the poster without damaging it.
Method 2 of 2: Sticking a Framed Poster Without Damaging the Wall
Step 1. Frame your poster
Before attaching a framed poster, of course you have to frame your poster first. Framing a poster takes some brain and effort. If you're still trying to frame your poster, you can learn more through the article Framing a Poster.
Step 2. Use removable adhesive tape
Once your poster is framed, choose adhesive. The adhesive and poster tack in the previous step are not strong enough to support the weight of the frame. So framed posters require another type of adhesive. Many companies provide tamper-proof adhesive strips or poster adhesive strips.
Step 3. Weigh the poster and frame
The adhesive strips have a weight limit stated on the package. So, weigh your poster and frame-between one and a half kilograms of weight can be measured using a bathroom scale-so you can figure out how many strips you need.
Step 4. Glue the adhesive strip on the back of the frame
Find the point on the back of the frame that will stick to the wall and apply adhesive tape. Peel off the strip covering and stick the sticky side of the strip to the frame. Press for a few seconds. Attach at least one strip of adhesive to the top edges of the frame. Add a strip of adhesive if two strips are not enough to support the weight of the frame.
If the frame has hooks protruding, remove it first
Step 5. Also glue the velcro part to the pair that has been attached to the frame
Instead of sticking the velcro part directly on the wall and trying to align it with the adhesive on the frame, it's better to stick the adhesive strip and the Velcro mount on the frame. After that, peel off the velcro cover paper and stick the frame to the wall.
Step 6. Glue the framed poster to the wall
After all the adhesive strips and velcro pairs are attached to the frame, peel off the velcro backing paper, and attach the poster. You can't move the adhesive strip like a poster tack so make sure you get it right the first time you try.
If you're afraid that your poster won't be straight, get on a stool and place a balance or device commonly known as a waterpass over the poster frame. When the poster is at your desired height, make sure the air bubble is right in the middle of the level before you press the adhesive strip against the wall. If the poster is slightly tilted, the velcro can be shifted slightly
Step 7. Press each strip for 10 seconds
To make sure the strips stick together, press each strip against the wall for 10 seconds. Press firmly, but don't overdo the pressure so you don't crack the glass.
Step 8. Lift up to release
To remove the poster, do not pull the frame horizontally as the velcro teeth are created to prevent this kind of removal. Start at the bottom of the frame. Lift the bottom of the frame up and away from the wall.
Use the same method to remove the strips that are still stuck to the wall. If you pull it horizontally, you can damage the paint. To remove the strip, peel the strip in an upward or downward direction
Tips
- These methods can also be used to attach posters to brick or concrete walls when you can't use nails.
- Some cinemas display posters of films that will be shown. So, if you like a certain movie, look for the poster!
