Sweaters are quite difficult to fold, especially thick ones. However, there are techniques to easily fold and store sweaters. Grab your sweater right away and get started!
Step
Method 1 of 4: Folding a Regular Sweater
Step 1. Take the sweater and lay it down
Spread the sweater front-side up on a flat surface.
- Use a flat surface for the neatest folds.
- Try not to collect any part of the sweater.
Step 2. Fold both arms inward
Take one arm and place it over the front of the sweater, the cuffs facing the opposite side. Take the other arm and cross it over the first arm in the same way.
- Smooth out wrinkles while folding.
- The cuffs should not extend beyond the edge of the sweater.
Step 3. Take the hem on the sweater
Meet the hem with the sweater neck. The crease height is at the sweater cuffs.
- Do not fold the hem too high to avoid creasing.
- Some sweaters need to be folded twice.
Step 4. Turn the sweater over
Check all the folds of the sweater carefully, don't let any creases.
- Store the sweater carefully so it doesn't wrinkle.
- If the folds wrinkle or clump together, repeat from the beginning.
Method 2 of 4: Folding a Thick Sweater
Step 1. Unfold the sweater
Use a smooth surface and smooth out any wrinkles. An uneven surface will result in ugly creases.
Place the sweater with the front facing up
Step 2. Fold both hands
Take the sleeve of the sweater and fold it towards the opposite side. Try alternating the folds without creating lumps or imbalance.
- Start with either arm.
- Shoulders should remain parallel to the sides of the sweater.
Step 3. Roll up the hem
Hold the hem and roll up to the neck. Imagine scrolling through a map or poster.
- Do not roll too tightly because the sweater material can stretch.
- The roll should be as even as possible.
Step 4. Flip it over
Turn the sweater to the opposite side so that the neck of the sweater is facing up
If the sweater looks lumpy or uneven, start over
Step 5. Tie with a rubber band
Insert the rubber band all the way to the center of the sweater. This rubber will keep the sweater rolled up.
- Use a rubber band that is the right size so it doesn't break.
- Yarn can also be used
Method 3 of 4: Folding a Light and Open Sweater
Step 1. Unfold the sweater
Flatten and smooth the sweater over the surface. Missed wrinkles will be seen more clearly when folded and stored.
Some sweater materials are quite difficult to smooth
Step 2. Fold the arms
Take one arm and fold it across the face of the sweater, towards the opposite side. Grab the sleeve cuff and fold it back across the face of the sweater, towards the side the sleeve is on. Do the same for the other arm.
Try to keep the edges of the sleeves flowing with the edges of the sweater
Step 3. Roll up the sweater
Grasp the hem and roll the sweater up toward the neck.
The roll should not be too loose, because it will come apart later
Step 4. Fold in half
Hold one end of the sweater and meet the other end. The crease is right in the middle of the sweater.
- This method is suitable for storing sweaters in small spaces.
- Oversized sweaters may need to be folded more than once.
Method 4 of 4: Folding to Prevent Clothes Hangers
Step 1. Unfold the sweater
Lay the sweater on a flat surface. Make sure there are no bumps and wrinkles
Step 2. Fold the sweater in half
Take one arm and bring it together with the other arm. Make neat and clear folds
Fold right in the middle of the sweater
Step 3. Take the hanger
Use wooden or plastic hangers as they won't damage the clothes. Place the hanger over the sweater and the hanger hook facing down from the armpit.
Only use flat hangers
Step 4. Make the final fold
Grab the hem and fold it over the hanger arm. Take a sweater sleeve and do the same.
- The sweater should be folded tightly on the hanger.
- Please start from the sleeve or hem. No difference.
Step 5. Hang
Hang folded sweaters to prevent wrinkles or hanger marks from forming. This method also prevents the sweater from stretching from hanging.
Hang sweaters to save space and prevent wrinkles
Tips
- Do not use rubber bands on sensitive sweaters to prevent damage.
- Make folds as neat as possible to prevent wrinkles.
- Attach all buttons before starting to fold.
- Do not use wire hangers.
