The "two-strand twist" hairstyle is a versatile hairstyle that can be applied to both long and short hair. The basic two-strand twist model can be used as a basic hairstyle for various variations that will look unique to the user. This model can also be applied easily to children because this model is very easy to decorate with ribbons or beads. Follow the steps below to create a two-strand twist model with a professional look that can be an alternative to your everyday hairstyle.
Step
Part 1 of 3: Getting Ready
Step 1. Decide what kind of twist you like
You can choose to make a few big twists (thick) or many small twists. The styles and options for these twists are almost limitless, so choose the type you like best.
Step 2. Wash your hair using a shampoo and conditioner that suits your hair type
Rinse your hair thoroughly with clean water. Then, dry your hair gently. Make sure your hair is damp after drying with a towel.
If there is still water dripping, you should continue to blow dry your hair until there is no more (washed) water dripping off
Step 3. Unravel the tangled sections of hair
Next, comb your hair using a wide-toothed comb.
- Comb your hair from the ends first. Once the tangled hairs are untangled, lift them up about 2.5 cm and continue to comb the hair downwards until all the tangled hair (from root to tip) is unraveled.
- Use an anti-frizz product for hair (such as Kinky Curly Knot Today) to make your hair softer.
Step 4. Divide your hair into two sections
Use a fine-toothed comb or a sasak comb (often called a rat-tail comb, a comb with teeth on one side and the other for separating hair) to divide hair horizontally from ear to ear.
Keep the top and bottom hair separate by using bobby pins
Step 5. Separate the top and bottom into six sections
This is the part you will use to create the twist. ("Please note": this is an example that uses two twists, but the procedure remains the same for whatever number of twists you want).
- To form the three sections above, separate the hair from the top into the horizontal section you just created. Pinch each piece until it stays separate.
- To form three sections at the bottom, separate the hair from the scalp down to the horizontal section you just created.
Part 2 of 3: Making Twists in Your Hair
Step 1. Lift the bobby pin from the first section (one at a time to all sections) of hair that you have separated
This will be the part that doesn't twist and stays loose.
It's easy to work from the bottom to the top so you can keep the top twist neat
Step 2. Comb the slightly loose parts
Use a wide-toothed comb to untangle any tangles that may occur during the splitting and clamping process.
Step 3. Use hair lotion or pomade
The lotion or pomade keeps the hair follicles together and helps keep this twist in shape to last.
Gently rub the lotion or hair oil into the palm of your hand and smooth the lotion/hair oil onto the part of the hair to be twisted (twist)
Step 4. Separate the loose parts
Use an elastic band (optional) to hold the hair in place and separate it into two sections.
- Tie the rubber band as close to the roots of your hair as possible, keeping the hair from being pulled too tightly.
- Make sure the two separate sections of hair are the same size.
Step 5. Twist two new sections of hair together
Cross the left to the right until the ends of the two halves meet.
Let the ends of the section curl and apply hair gel to keep the twist in place
Part 3 of 3: Decorating and Caring for a Twist
Step 1. Decorate the twist with beads, hair clips, bowknot or elastic band trim
The hair ornament can be worn at the end or the base of the twist.
- Hairpins, bowknot or elastic bands are commonly used to tie the twist.
- Use beads. Beads can also be used to decorate the twist by sliding them onto the end of the twist and decorating the end of the twist.
Step 2. Use a satin pillowcase
Use a satin scarf or satin pillowcase to keep your twist in place.
Tips
- Twists can be formed on clean, dry hair if you use a spray bottle filled with water to moisturize your hair.
- If the twist starts to look unraveling or curly, remove the twist, separate it into sections, and start the twist shaping process from scratch.
- Combing each section of hair will produce a softer and shinier twist.
- If certain sections of your hair start to dry out while forming this two-strand twist, moisten the section with water from a spray bottle.
