Before getting a new ring or resizing an old one, it's a good idea to know your finger size. Knowing your finger size is easy and can be done in a number of ways. Whether you want to measure yourself or hire a professional, there are several practical methods for measuring your finger. Just remember to measure the finger you want to put the ring on.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Using Conversion Tables
Step 1. Find a ring size conversion table on the internet
Many online jewelers provide tables to help you convert inches and centimeters into ring sizes. Print the table, or simply bookmark the page so it can be opened whenever needed. You can also visit the jeweler to request this table.
- This table consists of columns and rows that list finger sizes next to ring sizes so you can convert finger diameters to standard ring sizes.
- Here's an example of a table that can be found on the internet:
Step 2. Cut a strip of paper long enough to fit around your finger
Use paper that is sturdy enough so that it doesn't tear easily when wrapped. You can use plain cardboard or HVS. When cutting paper with scissors, just estimate the length it will take to go around your finger. For now, the length or width doesn't need to be exact.
Step 3. Wrap the sheet of paper around the knuckle until it fits snugly
You'll need to wrap the paper around the finger you're going to put the ring on to get an accurate result. Do not wrap paper where the ring will be on the finger because the ring must still pass through the knuckle. When you're done tightening, make sure the paper can slide through the knuckle in both directions.
Step 4. Draw a line to mark where the two ends of the paper meet
The line should indicate exactly where the bottom half of the paper meets the top half.
If you have trouble keeping the paper in position when you want to make a mark, ask friends or family for help
Step 5. Use a ruler to measure the paper to the pencil mark
For more accuracy, measure the piece of paper in centimeters. These are the units needed to find your measurements.
Step 6. Use the conversion table to determine the ring size
Find your finger size on the left side of the table. Then, look at the row in the column that contains your ring size. Some tables provide sizes for various international markets so make sure you see which ring size is right for you.
Step 7. Measure the ring back to make sure the size is accurate
Repeat the process again with new paper. If you get the same result, rest assured that the size is correct. If the results are different, try a third time. If the third result matches one of the first two measurements, use that measure. If the third measurement results in a completely different size, it's best to see a jeweler.
Method 2 of 3: Using the Ring Size Chart
Step 1. Print ring size from internet
This chart shows multiple circles representing various ring sizes. Inside each circle. The sizes are clearly marked. Search the internet for a jeweler in your city to request one of these charts and print it out. When printing, be sure to follow any instructions the site provides regarding proper page scaling.
You can get sample ring sizes here:
Step 2. Place the ring on another circle on the ring size chart
If the ring fits inside the circle, it's too big for you. If the circle is clearly visible in the ring, it is too small.
Only use a ring that fits perfectly on the finger to which the ring will be attached
Step 3. Stop when you find the hoop that fits the ring
You've found the right ring size if the ring is just above the circle. Even though the circle is exactly inside the circumference of the ring, it should still be the right size. Double check with the circle next to it to make sure it's too small or too big with the ring. If so, the circle in the middle is the size of your ring.
Step 4. Read the circle size to determine your ring size
The number in the circle should indicate your ring size. Use these numbers to order a new ring from your favorite jeweler.
Method 3 of 3: Visiting Jauhari
Step 1. Find a jeweler in your area
Most jewelers offer a free sizing service. Their method is usually the most accurate because it uses a special tool to determine the size. Search the internet for a trusted jeweler in your city, or ask friends or family for recommendations.
Step 2. Ask the jeweler to determine your finger size
Check back to make sure this service is free of charge, if you wish you didn't have to pay. The best ring sizes should fit snugly, but can be removed easily. Choose a ring size that feels most comfortable on your finger. Ask your jeweler if you have any questions or concerns about choosing the right ring size for you.
Make sure the jeweler measures the size of the finger to which the ring will be attached
Step 3. Buy a ring from the jeweler or use your measurements to buy a ring at another store
Usually jewelers don't expect you to buy from them just because you asked them to measure your finger. However, if you don't plan to buy from a jeweler who helps you, be sure to write down the size you get so you don't forget.
