Spit shining (shining military-style shoes), is known as a method of polishing shoes, by rubbing the surface or all sides, so that it looks shiny. This method requires a variety of shoe polishing equipment, not only to create a shiny look, but also to improve the condition of the shoes. A good method will last for 30 to 45 minutes. Therefore, it is advisable to take the time, and avoid using too much liquid or shoe polish.
Step
Part 1 of 4: Setting Up the Shoe Shine Equipment
Step 1. Purchase a brush tool set
You will need a shoe polish brush, a dauber brush for cleaning, and a horsehair shine brush (a brush with long, soft bristles).
The Kiwi brand sells a shoe polishing kit for around $40 to $50 (Rp 500,000 to Rp 700,000). It includes a shoe holder commonly used in the process of polishing shoes
Step 2. Purchase a polishing cloth and a spritzing cloth (a special cloth used for polishing shoes)
You should also have some kind of cloth to remove dirt and messy polish residue.
Step 3. Look for shoe polish of the same color as your shoes
Kiwi, a brand of shoe polish, is a standard type of polish commonly used for men's shoes and boots. Also consider buying a conditioner to increase the durability of the leather.
Step 4. Prepare the place
You'll need to put down a large towel or several sheets of newspaper to make sure that you don't get any residue or used polish on the floor or table.
Part 2 of 4: Cleaning and Preparing Shoes
Step 1. Brush the entire surface of the shoe with a dauber brush

Step 2. Spray water on the basting brush, about twice to remove any dust or dirt
Step 3. Wipe off excess dust on the shoes using a rag
Step 4. Dab a dab of cleanser and conditioner on the dauber brush
Brush the shoes using a medium-sized brush evenly on each side. Try to do this in one-way motions on each side, top, and "tongue" of the shoe (the tongue-shaped side of the fabric where the two sides of the shoe meet).
Be sure to coat the entire shoe with conditioner
Step 5. Wipe the dabbing brush into a clean cloth, to remove dirt and adhering conditioner residue
Step 6. Carefully brush the sole of the shoe, or the space between the side and the sole
Residual fluid may collect in this layer.
Part 3 of 4: Shine Shoes
Step 1. Open your shoe wax (polish) case
Spray the contents with a small amount of water.
Step 2. Rub the polishing cloth into the polish
Rub all over the shoe. Rub the cloth again before starting a new section. This is done to make sure you have an adequate amount of polish to rub into your shoes.
Step 3. Spray some water on the horsehair brush
Rub the surface of the leather shoes until they are shiny. Do it with light movements.
Step 4. Repeat the steps on the top, sides, heel, and toe of the shoe
Step 5. Consider applying clear coat polish to your shoes, especially if you want your shoes to be water resistant
Open the clear coat polish container and spray it with a little water. Apply all over the shoe using a clean, glossy cloth.
- Polish or buff the entire surface of the shoe with a horsehair brush.
- This protective polish can also be used to add a shimmer or shine effect.
Part 4 of 4: Shine Shoes
Step 1. Take the spritzing cloth
Spray lightly with water.
Step 2. Place the shoes on a shelf, or have someone hold them to keep them in position
Step 3. Hold the spritzing cloth on both sides
Rub in very quick motions from side to side, from the top to the toe of the shoe.
Step 4. Do each step slowly, until you reach the bottom
Repeat on the back of the shoe. Usually, you want the toe and heel of your shoe to look the shiniest.
- Spritzing cloth utilizes friction to create heat. The combination of heat and water in these shoes is what makes them look shinier.
- Instead of spritzing cloth, you can moisten a few cotton balls and then dip them in shoe polish. Rub the cotton balls into the toes of the shoes in circular motions until they look shiny. The process will take approximately ten minutes per shoe to achieve the desired gloss effect.
Step 5. Buy shoe dressing if you want the sole and heel to shine
Apply the handle of the shoe dressing to the edges of the sole and heel to make it look shiny and shiny (though it can wear off quickly).
