Storing dirty Adidas shoes can spoil your appearance and make them smell bad. Luckily, you can clean your own shoes at home with simple tools, such as laundry soap and baking soda. By cleaning the shoes, laces and soles, your Adidas shoes will look like new again.
Step
Method 1 of 3: Cleaning the Outside of the Shoe
Step 1. Get rid of all the dirt that is on your shoes
Do this outside so that dirt does not fall on the floor. Hit the bottom of the shoe a few times to get rid of the dirt and grime.
Step 2. Remove the moving bits of soil with a dry toothbrush
Take a clean toothbrush and rub it over the stubborn dirt. Do not rub the top of the shoe as this can damage the material.
Wash the toothbrush when you're done, then store it in a plastic bag so you can reuse it at another time
Step 3. Clean the shoes with detergent and warm water
Put a drop of detergent in a bowl of warm water, then dip a cloth in it. Clean the sole and the top of the shoe with the cloth. Rub the cloth back and forth over the dirty area until it is clean.
Use a bleaching detergent if your shoes are white
Step 4. Rinse the cloth with warm water, then wipe off the detergent stuck to the shoes
Wipe the sole and the top of the shoe until no detergent remains. You will need to wipe off all the foam that is on the shoe. This is important because drying detergents can damage the shoe material.
Step 5. Let your shoes dry overnight
Place your shoes indoors to dry at room temperature. Do not use a heater to speed up the process as the shoes can be damaged.
Method 2 of 3: Washing Shoelaces
Step 1. Remove the shoelaces from their place
Shoelaces are easier to clean when removed. Put the shoes in a separate place after removing the laces.
Step 2. Apply stain remover to the dirty shoelace area
If you use a spray, spray the dirty spot straight away. If you're using a liquid stain remover, pour the liquid onto a washcloth and then wipe the laces. Read the instructions on the cleaner's package to see if you need to let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing.
Step 3. Wash the laces in the washing machine with your clothes that need to be washed
If your laces are white, wash them with white clothes so they don't absorb dye from other fabrics and change color. If you have colored shoelaces, wash them with similar colored clothes. Wash laces on the same washing machine setting as regular clothes.
Step 4. Let the laces dry overnight
Spread the laces on a table or shelf to dry them. Do not machine dry shoelaces as the material may shrink. Once dry, screw the shoelaces back into place.
Method 3 of 3: Cleaning the Insole on the Inside of the Shoe
Step 1. Remove the sole that is inside the shoe
The sole is the basic covering of the shoe that is on the inside of the shoe. You just have to lift and pull it out.
If the sole won't come out, clean it directly without removing it
Step 2. Sprinkle baking soda on the insole inside the shoe, then let it sit overnight
The baking soda will absorb the bad smell inside the shoes. You don't need to use too much baking soda. Sprinkle only a thin layer on the surface of the shoe sole.
Step 3. Clean the baking soda that is on the sole
Dispose of the baking soda in the trash or in a plastic bag, or remove the sole and wipe off all the baking soda on the surface. Once clean, you can reinsert the sole into the shoe.
