Open comedones and closed comedones are generally thought to be caused by dirt, sweat, and poor hygiene, but that's just a myth! The real cause of "blackheads" is clogged pores due to excess sebum (oil) production. When exposed to air, blackheads will "oxidize" and turn black, so they are called "blackheads" (open comedones). If blackheads are pressed with pressure, unwanted scars can appear on the skin. However, using a safe blackhead remover will help you clean it without staining or scarring.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Preparing the Skin
Step 1. Clean the face
Remove any make-up or other products that may be applied to the face. Gently pat your face dry and be careful not to irritate the skin by rubbing it with a towel.
Step 2. Bring the water to a boil
Blackheads will be easier to remove if the pores are open. Not only will steaming open the pores for the extraction process, but it will also relax you!
Step 3. Place a towel over your head
While waiting for the water to boil, find a towel and place it over your head during the steaming process. The towel will retain the steam and keep it from escaping thereby optimizing the evaporation effect.
Step 4. Bring your face closer to the steam
When it has produced enough steam, remove the water from the cooking pot. Position your face over the bowl, and place a towel over your head like a tent to keep out the steam. Stay still in this position for 4-8 minutes.
- Be careful when handling containers of hot water. You may need to use oven mitts to protect your hands.
- Don't position your face too close to the steam, as you may scald your skin. The effect of the steam should be comfortable and not sting the skin.
- It's normal to have a slight blush on your face, but stop steaming if your skin is irritated.
Method 2 of 2: Using a Blackhead Extractor
Step 1. Clean the blackhead extractor
When using a blackhead extractor, the skin pores that contain blackheads will open. If you don't use sterile tools, your skin will be exposed to bacteria, making skin problems worse. To sterilize it, soak the blackhead extractor in pure alcohol for one minute.
- Provide pure alcohol so you can use the blackhead extractor while cleaning it.
- Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly or wear vinyl gloves during the blackhead removal process. This is so that the bacteria on the hands do not transfer to the facial skin.
Step 2. Position the blackhead extractor correctly
The tool has a hole at one end. Place the hole around the blackhead you want to remove.
- If you have trouble seeing it, try using a magnifying glass. This type of glass can be purchased cheaply through pharmacies, convenience stores, or internet sites.
- Also make sure to do it in a bright place.
Step 3. Press the blackhead extractor gently but firmly
Once the blackhead is in the extractor hole, press it firmly enough to lift the blackhead off the skin. Press the skin around the blackhead until the entire blackhead is completely lifted. Blackheads can reach beneath the skin, so don't stop if only a little of the material has come out. Keep pressing on the skin from different angles until the skin doesn't ooze any material.
- Once all the blackheads are out, remove the blackhead extractor from the skin.
- Clean the blackhead extractor with running water or a tissue.
Step 4. Re-sterilize the blackhead extractor before using it again
Sterilize the device every time you remove a new blackhead, even if you remove several blackheads at a time. Soak the appliance in pure alcohol for one minute, then repeat the process mentioned earlier. Continue until all blackheads on the skin are removed.
Step 5. Protect open pores
When you remove a blackhead, the skin in the area will have an open “wound”. Although not very obvious, the wound takes time to heal. Apply a small amount of astringent to these areas to protect them from bacteria or dust that causes skin problems.
- After using an astringent, apply a moisturizer to keep the skin from drying out.
- Do not apply makeup before the face is treated with an astringent.
Tips
- Do this process every 1 week or once a month according to your skin type. Be patient because the blackhead removal process must be done continuously.
- You can also put a warm towel on your face. Remove the towel from your face before it cools down to prevent the pores from shrinking.
- In addition to astringent, you can also use ice cubes to close the pores.
Warning
- The pores will look bigger after the blackheads in the area around the nose are removed. However, this is because the pores are empty. Astringent will help close it.
- Many people have skin that is sensitive to astringents. Use a small amount of astringent until your skin gets used to the formula. If you've never used it on your face, your skin will turn red.
- Be careful when steaming your face. Breathe slowly and don't bring your face too close to avoid scalding your skin.
- never ever pressing the blackhead extractor too hard. Besides being bad for the skin, this will also leave "holes" on the face for some time. If you press too much, the capillaries can swell.
- Avoid using hydrogen peroxide on the face. As an oxidizing agent, hydrogen peroxide has a corrosive effect on the skin.
