Step 3. Navigate the boat

The boat will go in the direction of the cursor you are pointing at when you hold down the W key. Pressing S Back will quickly change the direction of the boat to the opposite direction.

  • Boats are very fragile, and can break easily if hit. The boat that is destroyed on impact will drop three Wood Planks and two Sticks. A boat that is destroyed by an attack will bring down the boat.
  • You can Sprint while using the boat to move a little faster.

Tips

  • If you push the boat on the snow, the snow will melt.
  • The speed effect can make the boat move faster.
  • The boat moves in the direction of the current or with the control of the player.
  • As entities, boats behave like minecarts going off course. However the boat acts like a solid block, meaning it can be placed on top of players, mobs and other boats. Players, mobs and other entities can also stand on the boat.
  • These steps work for both PC and console versions of Minecraft. Boats are not available in Minecraft Pocket Edition.
  • You can use the door to block the boat from moving with the current. This is important if you are building a pier or canal.
