By repeating a tweet (known as a retweet), you can show your followers your favorite tweets. When you repeat an existing tweet, you can add your own comments, as well as animated GIFs, video clips, or photos (up to 4 images). This wikiHow teaches you how to repeat a tweet through the Twitter mobile app and the Twitter.com website.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using the Twitter App on a Phone or Tablet
Step 1. Open Twitter on your Android device, iPhone, or iPad
This app is marked by a blue and white bird icon which is usually on the home screen or in the app drawer. You can also search for this app on your device if you want.
Step 2. Find the tweet you want to share with your followers
You can repeat the tweet from the feed page, the “mention” section, or your own profile.
- Tap the home icon in the lower-left corner of the screen to access the feed page (a page containing tweets from users you follow).
- To see tweets that mention you, tap the bell icon at the bottom of the screen, then select “ MENTIONS ” in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 3. Tap the two arrows icon that forms a square below the tweet
It's the retweet icon and is the second button from the left below the tweet. Several options will be displayed afterwards.
If the tweet was uploaded by a private account owner, the icon will be darkened and you won't be able to share the tweet
Step 4. Touch the retweet or retweet option
Once selected, the tweet will appear in followers' feeds, as well as your own profile as a reshared tweet. You have two options for repeating the tweet:
- Touch " Retweets ” if you want to share your tweets with your followers automatically, without adding your own comments.
- Touch " Retweet with comments ” if you want to add your own opinion (maximum 280 characters), photo (maximum 4 images), or video. After adding content, touch the “ Retweets ” in the upper right corner of the screen to send the tweet.
Method 2 of 2: Using the Twitter.com Site on a Computer
Step 1. Visit
If you are not logged into your account, type in your login information to access the account.
Step 2. Find the tweet you want to reshare
You can share tweets from the feed page and the “mentions” section, or tweets you upload yourself.
- Click the tab " Home ” in the menu on the left side of the Twitter page to access the feed page.
- Click " Profile ” to view your own tweets.
- To see tweets that mention you, click the “ Notifications ” on the left pane, then select “ Mentions ” at the top of the tweet list.
Step 3. Click the two arrows icon that forms a square below the tweet
This icon is the retweet or retweet icon and is the second button in the row below the tweet. Two options will be displayed after that.
If the tweet you want to share shows a lock icon, you can't share it because the user's profile is set as private
Step 4. Select the retweet or retweet option
Once selected, the tweet will appear in followers' feeds, as well as your own profile as a reshared tweet. You have two options for repeating the tweet:
- Click " Retweets ” to share tweets automatically with followers. Once the option is clicked, the color of the retweet icon will change to green or blue, depending on the profile's color scheme.
- Click " Retweet with comments ” if you want to include your own opinion in the tweet (maximum 280 characters). You can also add up to 4 photos, one animated GIF, or one video if you want. After the content is added, click “ Retweets ” at the bottom of the screen to share the tweet with followers.
Tips
- If the comment or opinion you want to add to a reshared tweet exceeds 280 characters, you can shorten it by changing the word “and” to the “&” symbol. You can also abbreviate words like “from” and “to” to “dr” and “k”. However, be careful not to change the meaning of the tweet or omit important details.
- Some third party programs (eg TweetDeck) have different retweet methods and tools.
