Hand-held, hand-armed, and hand-thrown grenades, hand grenades are a type of modern weapon that is very sophisticated and powerful if all of these weapons are used simultaneously. Because these grenades are quite dangerous weapons, it's very important to know how to hold and throw them safely before you actually do them. Keep in mind that there is no written guide on how to use or throw a grenade properly, but you can learn from someone who is an expert in using the grenade, so never ever use grenades until you receive training in their use from the military or police.

Method 1 of 4: Throwing Stand Up
Step 1. Determine the direction of the target you will attack before you prepare your grenade
Grenades are not like firearms which have a point on the target that determines which part you will attack. Grenades can destroy anything that is near the blast radius of the grenade itself - both your friends and your enemies. Therefore, determine the direction of your enemy's aim before you pull the pin on the grenade. Never hold a grenade until you know the position of the enemy you want to attack - you certainly do do not want holding an active grenade without having a clear target.

Step 2. Grab your grenade

Step 3. Pull the lever with your non-dominant hand
This lever has been precisely designed to allow easy finger placement to easily pull the lever by slipping your finger in the ring and pulling it to activate the grenade. The safety clip must be completely removed from the grenade.
Step 4. Throw a grenade
Grenades can be thrown the same way you throw a baseball. When throwing a grenade, keep your feet shoulder-width apart, bend slightly, and swing your arms over your head and slightly step forward. Your arm should go past your ear and you should rotate your hips. Let the grenade go in the direction you are aiming for.
For distance and accuracy when throwing, you must pay attention to the space for your movement. This means that when the grenade is in your hand, allow your arm to come down and slightly around your hip
Step 5. Take cover
Watch as accurately as possible before the grenade explodes to protect yourself. Kneel or lie behind your cover area to protect yourself from the shrapnel generated by the grenade you throw. Keep in mind that when you use grenades, you must also pay attention to enemy attacks, so that you can predict when to take cover from enemy attacks.
- If no shelter is available, protect yourself by lying down and acclimating yourself to the explosive debris generated by the grenade.
- Once the grenade is in the air, which means it's thrown and out of your hand, you should pay attention to the safety lever in place. Grenades have about five to six seconds of being activated. However, in this case, the time the grenade explodes after it is activated varies greatly depending on the type of grenade you are using.
Method 2 of 4: Throwing Grenades From Kneeling Position
Step 1. Face your target
In an attack situation, a grenade usually won't go as far as your target if you throw the grenade in a standing position. For example, if you are attacked by an enemy while you are standing, you will not have the time and space to take cover. Luckily, you can also throw grenades from this position to minimize counter attacks from your enemies.
To throw a grenade in a kneeling position, start by finding the right position. Bend your knees to lower your body down, then prepare your body to rotate your body ninety degrees from the direction you are going when preparing to throw a grenade so that when you throw a grenade you can take cover immediately so you don't get hit by the shards of the grenade you throw
Step 2. Place your legs extended back
Bend your legs and press them into the ground in front of your body so that your knees are pointing toward your target. At the same time, stretch your legs behind your body so that the shins of your feet touch the ground. Hold this position to maximize the stability of your body.
Keep in mind that your kneeling position when throwing a grenade not the same in a kneeling position when you are about to pick up something that has fallen to the ground. In the way mentioned, it can increase stability and additional support to provide energy and power as you throw the grenade.
Step 3. Extend your arm that is not gripping the grenade towards your target
Place your grenade gripping arm against your chest and pull the pin and then press the lever. When you are ready to throw a grenade, the other arm is extended and in front of the body to provide power when throwing the grenade.
As mentioned earlier, the kneeling posture does not waste energy as in the standing position. Stretching the hand that isn't gripping the grenade forward will give you more power to throw the grenade
Step 4. Throw like a fist move
Throw the grenade over your head, bringing your arms over your ears and around your hips as you throw the grenade. For added power, push your foot forward but keep the other foot firmly on the ground.
Don't forget to take cover! Hiding behind shields is as low as possible. If no cover is available, drop yourself as low as possible to the ground
Method 3 of 4: Throwing a Grenade From a Face Down
Step 1. Lie on your back when you unpin
Of all the grenade-throwing positions, the prone position has very little chance of the accuracy of throwing the grenade. But when you are in a position that does not have a protector, you must avoid enemy attacks by lying on your stomach. Therefore, throwing a grenade in a prone position is one way when there is no protection around you and when you are preparing to throw a grenade.
To begin with, you will need to lie on your back behind a shield. You should place your grenade gripping arm against your chest. So you have the energy to throw your grenades far towards the target
Step 2. Bend your legs back and be ready to throw the grenade
Bend your leg at a 90-degree angle and keep it in contact with your other knee. Pin your toes to the ground. This will give you more power to throw your grenades.
Simultaneously, your finger prepares to pull the pin and press the lever. Then put your arm to your ear and be ready to throw
Step 3. Throw the grenade by rolling your body
To throw a grenade, you must move your foot forward towards your target as you are about to throw a grenade at your target. Start with this movement. If needed, you can try to use all of these methods. Your body should be as low as possible to touch the ground. The advantage of this method is, you minimize the hit from enemy attacks.
If you can, you can pick up an object in front of you for added impact
Step 4. Take cover
Since you're already lying down, you'll need to find and quickly get to the shelters around you to protect you from enemy attacks.
You'll have less time to throw a grenade than any other position besides the prone position. Since the grenade will explode not far from your position, you should take cover as soon as possible
Method 4 of 4: Throwing Active Grenades Safely
Step 1. Choose the grenade that suits your needs
Grenades are available in several types. Some grenades are designed to kill enemies, some only produce a small explosion, and some are designed to destroy buildings and vehicles. It is very important to choose the type of grenade that you will use according to your needs. If you use the wrong grenade, you will result in an error and disaster for you or your relatives. Here are some types of grenades:
- Fragment Grenade: Generates lots of small pieces of shrapnel on explosion. Usually considered lethal to unarmoured targets at close range it rapidly decreases effectiveness at longer ranges. The pieces can penetrate some delicate soft materials such as wood, plaster, and lead, but are usually impermeable to blocks, sandbags, and armor.
- Concussion Grenade: Creates a massive explosion. The effect will be more pronounced in a closed environment, making it useful for urban areas and bunkers, and so on. Can also be used for improvised demolition.
- Incendiary Grenades: Produces high-temperature flames. It can burn flammable structures, destroy equipment and weapons, and even penetrate armored vehicles in certain situations.
- Smoke grenades: Produces white smoke as well as colored smoke. Usually used to hide infantry or light vehicle movement or to make your position invisible to the enemy.
- Stun grenade: This grenade produces explosions and a bright light, this grenade is commonly used indoors.
- Tear gas grenades: These grenades produce harmless tear gas. These grenades are used to disperse mobs.
Step 2. Know how dangerous the grenade you are using is
Grenades can be lethal to your friends who are too close to the distance you throw the grenade. So it is very important to know how dangerous the grenade you are using is. Even if you or your friends are far from the explosive range of the grenade you are using, you and your friend must remain sheltered because shards and debris from the grenade explosion can hit you or your friends.
- For fragment grenades, the blast range is about 15-20 meters. While shrapnel can potentially fly as far as 60 meters, the speed of shrapnel is also very fast. So you better be careful.
- The concussion grenade has a much smaller range than other grenades, usually only a few meters from the explosion range. However, in an enclosed area, the explosive power is greater. In this situation, you must take cover in a bunker to protect yourself.
- Other grenades have a more limited blast range. A fire grenade is usually lethal if thrown into a flammable area, so enemies can get trapped inside. Smoke grenades can cause burns, but are not fatal. Stun grenades and tear gas grenades are designed to be less lethal.
Step 3. Be careful when your grenade is activated
When the grenade starts to activate and is thrown at the enemy, it is not uncommon for the enemy to pick up the grenade you throw and throw it back at you. There are several techniques of throwing grenades. Usually soldiers leave active grenades in their hands to avoid a counterattack from the enemy. So that when the grenade reaches the enemy's place, the grenade explodes immediately and there is no time for the enemy to throw the grenade you throw. Usually grenades have a time to explode about five seconds. But there are some grenades that have a longer detonation time.
- Note that this technique is also sometimes used to increase the effectiveness of grenades against bunkers or emplacements. In this case a grenade explosion in the air is considered the best attack to kill your enemy.
- Also note that many grenades from the Soviet Union have slightly shorter fuses than American grenades. This grenade has a detonation time of about three seconds.
Step 4. Avoid throwing grenades higher
When throwing lethal or non-lethal grenades, keep in mind that grenades can roll lower. Therefore, avoid throwing the grenade at a higher level for your safety.
If you do have to throw the grenade higher up, hold the grenade for about 2 seconds when it's active so that when you throw it higher, it won't come back at you and explode right at your target
Step 5. Know the effectiveness of your shield
Taking cover after you detonate a grenade is a life-and-death comparison for you. Taking cover after you throw a grenade is a good idea. Your experience is a role model for knowing which protectors are good and bad for you.
- Fragmented grenade fragments can penetrate wood, plaster, glass, furniture and thin layers of metal. Using protection from sandbags, rocks and heavy metal is the best advice for your protection.
- Note that the concussion grenade waves can travel through confined spaces. Therefore, bunkers and other enclosed spaces are not recommended to protect yourself from these concussion grenades.
- While incendiary grenades have a short effective range, they have a temperature of 2200°F. This heat is hot enough to melt armor.

- If you use an explosive grenade of a strong type of material, it can cause serious injury.
- The M67 fragment grenade is very dangerous! They were designed to kill within a five meter radius and produce casualties within a fifteen meter radius. Do not use it except in combat and training for war.
