There is a trick to having a child of a certain gender in Sims 3, when your character is pregnant. The funny thing is, in this trick, your character has to go to a supermarket. There's no way that you can guarantee the results will be 100% correct, but you can trust this trick.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Getting a Boy or Girl
Step 1. Start at the beginning
Pregnancy in The Sims 3 only lasts 72 hours of gameplay. If suddenly there's music playing while your character is trying to have kids, it means they've succeeded. In order to influence your child's gender with a higher success rate, start early, before your character begins to reveal the shape of her pregnant belly.
Step 2. Consider turning off the Story Progression feature
While not sure yet, there are rumors that this feature tries to keep the gender ratio in your city in balance. In other words, if your city has more girls than boys, the game system will force your child to be a boy to balance it out. Better yet, turn off the Story Progression feature.
Step 3. Eat three apples to get a boy
According to Prima's strategy guide, your character will have a bigger chance of having a boy if he eats three apples while pregnant. Of course, there's no 100% guarantee, but this is the best way you can do it without having to mod the game you're playing.
To be safe, eat three apples per trimester (first day, second day, and third day of pregnancy)
Step 4. Eat watermelon to get a girl
The method is the same. The pregnant character must eat at least three watermelons to increase the chances of getting a girl.
Since update 1.3, this fruit trick can only be run if what is eaten is unprocessed raw fruit (really just apples or just watermelon). Eating fruits that contain apples or watermelons has no effect at all on the gender of the child
Method 2 of 2: Trying to Get a Boy and Girl Twin
Step 1. Increase your chances of getting a twin
There is always the possibility of conceiving twins for every pregnant sim. It can't be guaranteed, but you can still try it for a higher probability:
- Get Fertility Treatment rewards for one or both parents.
- When pregnant, have parents read pregnancy books, watch KidZone TV, and listen to nursery rhymes.
- If you have an extra Showtime game, ask the genie's extended family, or drink a fertility elixir.
Step 2. Have a medical professional determine your child's gender
Look for a character who is at least level 5 on the Medical career path (Resident or higher). Then, direct the pregnant character to talk to the doctor and have him determine the gender of the baby. You will get a message containing the baby's gender information. This prediction is always accurate, but only for one baby.
Before this option appears, the character who is pregnant must be heavily pregnant
Step 3. Eat fruit to change the gender of the other baby
As described above, eat watermelon to get a girl or an apple to get a boy. If you're lucky, you'll get twins (or even triplets). You may get the gender you want with the second baby.
For example, if the doctor says you will have a boy, eat watermelon to increase the chances that you will have a girl. One of the children will definitely be a boy, but if there are twins, there is a high chance that the twin will be a girl
Tips
- If you adopt a child, you can choose the gender of the child.
- If your male character is impregnated by aliens, save the game right before birth. If you don't get the gender you want, exit the game without saving and then log in again. (You can't do this for a normal birth).
