Squirrels are cute animals. If you want to learn how to draw a cute little squirrel, either in a cartoon or realistic style, follow this guide.
Step
Method 1 of 4: Cartoon Squirrel
Step 1. Draw the head and body
- Draw a circle for the head and a pear-like shape just below it.
- Optional: draw a vertical line from top to bottom of the pear shape.
- Make sure you use a pencil to make temporary sketches so they can be erased easily so your drawing can be cleaner.
Step 2. Draw the ears and jaw
- Draw two curves or pointed arcs for the ears.
- Draw a horizontal oval shape at the bottom of the head. These will be the jaws or cheeks of the squirrel.
Step 3. Draw a big “S” letter
This will be the tail of the squirrel
Step 4. Draw the hands and feet
- Draw a circle at the base of the pear shape for the squirrel thighbone. Since this image takes a 3/4 angle, the other thigh bone only appears halfway.
- For the hands, draw a long U slanted across the body.
Step 5. Draw two long ovals below the thighbone image
This will be the bottom of the squirrel's leg
Step 6. Use a pen to bold your sketch
- Remember the lines that overlap and the parts that should be hidden.
- The lines you draw may not look perfect and neat, but they should be clean enough when the pencil lines are erased.
Step 7. Erase the pencil sketch and add details
- You can add details like ears, eyes, mouth, nose, and fur.
- You can also draw additional lines to emphasize the legs and fur.
Step 8. Color the squirrel
Squirrels can come in a variety of colors ranging from orange, red, brown, or even gray, depending on the breed
Method 2 of 4: Realistic Red Squirrel
Step 1. Draw a big circle and a tear-like shape next to it
This will be the head and body of the squirrel
Step 2. Draw the hands and thighs
Draw two circles. The circle that is the shape of the thigh must be larger than the other circle. The circle and the head should be tilted
Step 3. Draw the ears and legs
- Draw two curved shapes for the ears. Depending on the type of squirrel, you can change the shape of the ears. Some squirrels have longer, pointed ears.
- For the legs, draw a trapezoid under the thigh and torso circles. The trapezoid attached to the squirrel's body must be smaller than the trapezoid on the thigh.
- The small trapezoid is for the legs hidden behind the squirrel's body.
Step 4. Draw the tail, paws, and face
- Draw a large “S” upside down from the body. This will be the squirrel's tail.
- At the bottom of each trapezoid, draw small triangles for the soles of the feet.
- For the face, draw two small circles, one for the eyes, and one for the nose.
Step 5. Use a pen to thicken the outline of your sketch
- Remember the lines that overlap each other and the parts that need to be erased.
- These lines may not be perfect and jagged, but they will be neat when the pencil lines are erased.
Step 6. Erase the pencil sketch and add details
- You can add details like ears, eyes, mouth, nose, and fur.
- You can also draw some additional lines to emphasize the paws and fur.
Step 7. Color the squirrel
Squirrels can have different colors ranging from orange, red, brown, or even gray, depending on the breed
Method 3 of 4: Realistic Style
Step 1. Draw a large oval shape in the center of the paper
This will be the squirrel's head.
Step 2. Draw ears and eyes
On each side of the top of the oval, draw two egg shapes for the ears. Then draw one smaller oval on the inside of the circle for the eyes.
Step 3. At the bottom right of the head, draw a horizontal oval shape
This will be the squirrel's body.
Step 4. Draw the little hand
Draw a long large oval overlapping a smaller oval at the top of the body shape.
Step 5. Draw a large circle and two long slender ovals at the bottom of the body shape for the legs
Step 6. On the right side of the body shape, draw a curved oval
This will be the tail shape.
Step 7. Bold the sketch and draw in details like eyes, slender and small fingers, and hair all over the body
Step 8. Erase the pencil lines carefully and re-emphasize the other lines
Step 9. Color it
Method 4 of 4: Cartoon Style
Step 1. Draw an oval in the center of the paper
This will be the shape of the head.
Step 2. Draw two pointed oval shapes at the top of the head shape for the squirrel ears
- Draw a slim oval shape on the inside. These will be his ears.
- At the bottom of the head shape, draw another pointed oval. This will be the squirrel's mouth.
Step 3. Draw a vertical oval under the head for the neck
Step 4. Under the neck, draw a long oval
This will be the squirrel's body.
Step 5. Draw a curved oval and a small circle at the end for the squirrel's arms and hands
At the end of the small circle, draw a large circle for the acorn.
Step 6. Draw a large circle and two slender ovals overlapping the body for the leg shape
Step 7. On the right side of the body, draw a shape like a question mark
This will be the shape of the tail.
