Most parakeets like to bathe. Bathing a parakeet is quite easy to do because it will develop its feathers so that water can flow closer to its skin. You should give your parakeet the opportunity to bathe several times a week, especially if your house is dry. Bathing makes birds more beautiful, and helps remove dirt and other dust from their feathers.
Step
Method 1 of 2: Bathing the Bird
Step 1. Fill a shallow bowl with warm water
The water depth should only be about an inch or two (2.54 to 5.08 cm). The water should not be too cold, as parakeets are susceptible to cold temperatures.
- You can also look for a bathing bowl attached to the side of the aviary.
- If the bird doesn't like the water bowl, you can also try wet grass or leaves placed at the bottom of the cage (clean). Birds will enjoy rolling around in it as a way of bathing.
- You don't have to use soap.
Step 2. Place a towel under the cage
If you're worried about water splashing out, place a towel under the cage. This will help keep the water from squirting everywhere.
Step 3. Place the bowl under the cage
Set a bowl of water at the bottom of the cage so the birds can jump into it. Make sure the bowl is in an even location.
If you want, you can also fill the sink with a little water. Put the parakeet in it then close the door so it doesn't fly away and run away. However, make sure your sink is clean
Step 4. Let the parakeet play
Basically, the bird will splash water and flap its wings in it. Sprinkling water means the bird is bathing itself. Most parakeets really enjoy this process.
If your parakeet doesn't jump right into it, give it a chance to get used to it. If the bird still doesn't jump, run the next method
Step 5. Let the bird dry itself
Birds will shake their bodies to dry their bodies. However, make sure that the area where the body is drying is not cold. You should cover the birdcage with a towel to help it.
Step 6. Clean the bath
After you bathe the bird, remove the bowl from the cage. Make sure you wash your bowl and hands thoroughly when you're done.
Method 2 of 2: Using a Spray Bottle
Step 1. Find or buy a spray bottle
You can find this bottle in the hair care section of a drugstore or grocery store. You can also find this bottle in the gardening section of any home supply store.
Another alternative is a perch that you can place in your own bath. You can find these perches at pet supply stores. Adjust the shower head to release a gentle spray and turn on the warm water
Step 2. Fill the sprayer with warm water
Again, do not use water that is too cold. Parakeets and other small birds are susceptible to cold.
Step 3. Set the spray head on a small level
Most spray bottles have several settings. Make sure the result is not like running water, but rather like a mist spray.
Step 4. Spray water over the bird
You must create a fine mist to water the birds. Do not spray water directly on the face. Most birds will not like this.
You can offer this type of bath every day as you wish
Step 5. Let your bird dry
Just make sure the area where the bird is drying its feathers is warm and free from cold winds.
