Disney usually hires players to portray various Disney princesses at their theme parks around the world. This job can be both fun and satisfying for a die-hard Disney fan. However, it is a highly competitive field with strict requirements. Spend a little time learning about working as a Disney princess before you venture into that career. Make sure you know how to audition successfully and the work environment to expect.

Part 1 of 3: Eligibility
Step 1. Learn the basic requirements
If you're interested in becoming a Disney princess, there are a variety of basic requirements. Some of these requirements are based on qualities that cannot be changed, such as height and age. If you want to get a job as a Disney princess, make sure you meet the basic requirements.
- Disney Princesses must be between 162cm and 170cm tall. This ensures a princess will resemble her character on screen.
- You must be at least 18 years old to be a Disney princess. The oldest age to become a princess varies. Most Disney princesses are between 18 and 23 years old. However, the princess who once worked successfully at Disney was between 24 and 26 years old. Disney Princesses over the age of 27 are rare.
- In terms of body size, Disney princess outfits can't be more than a size 10.
Step 2. Gain acting and performing experience
Disney does not require specific work experience in hiring someone as a princess. However, acting and performing will be a big part of your job. Having experience in the field will help you audition successfully.
- During high school or college, join a theater group. You can also take classes such as drama to learn the arts of acting and performing. If you're not in school, find out if there are acting courses in your area.
- Gain performing experience. Audition for school theater or community theater. See if you can find a job that requires you to appear. For example, you could work in a restaurant, such as the Medieval Times, where you have to portray a character as part of the job.
- Learn a little improv. Take improv lessons at your local theater or arts center. Join an improv group for hands-on experience. You'll be required to answer questions when you play a Disney princess, so you'll need to learn basic improv skills.

- One drawback to earning a bachelor's degree is the age requirement. Most people graduate from college around the age of 22. Keep in mind that most Disney princesses are between the ages of 18 and 23.
- However, there are advantages to having a bachelor's degree. Disney provides a college program where you will spend a semester working at a Disney theme park. You will gain invaluable behind-the-scenes experience and have the opportunity to meet cast members. This can lead you to work for a Disney company later, which will help you get a chance to play a princess.
Step 4. Keep your body in shape
Since Disney princesses can't be more than a size 10, try to maintain a healthy weight. Tight muscles can also give you an edge. The audition process is primarily non-verbal, so your physical presence will make a difference.
- The United States Department of Health and Human Services recommends getting at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity or at least 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity each week to stay in shape. Moderate aerobics includes activities such as brisk walking or light cycling. Strenuous aerobics can include activities such as running or jogging. It is also recommended that you engage in strength training twice a week. If you are trying to lose weight, you may need to exercise more each day. Talk to your doctor about how to lose weight, as he or she will be able to give you advice taking into account your weight and medical history.
- It's best to choose an activity that you enjoy. If you hate running, for example, don't make a workout plan by jogging every day. Instead, try something you enjoy such as swimming or cycling.
- Strength training can be standard weight lifting. However, activities like Pilates or yoga will help you build core muscles using only your body as weight.
- Following a healthy diet can also help you get fitter. Try to follow a diet that includes a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. You should also eat whole grains and the healthy lean protein found in chicken and fish.
Step 5. Get to know the various Disney princesses
You don't get to choose which character to play as a Disney princess. If you like Belle and know every detail about her, you could end up being asked to play Mulan. Therefore, try to get to know all the Disney princesses before starting the audition process.
- There are 13 Disney characters recognized as princesses by Disney, namely Jasmine, Ariel, Rapunzel, Tiana, Belle, Merida, Cinderella, Pocahontas, Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Mulan, Elsa, Anna, and Snow White.
- Disney does provide an extensive training process for those who are chosen to be princesses. This training includes watching movies extensively and analyzing them to help you adjust to the character's demeanor and voice. Because of this, you don't have to memorize everything about each princess because Disney doesn't ask you to be an expert when it comes to auditioning. But it's a good idea to watch all the Disney princess movies before auditioning. This will demonstrate your commitment to the Disney franchise.
Part 2 of 3: Auditioning for a Role
Step 1. Print the portrait
Portraits are essential when auditioning to be a Disney princess. Portraits should be printed in quality on standard letter-size paper. Make sure your portrait accurately represents your current appearance.
- Choose the right clothes for the portrait. Choose plain colors instead of patterned clothes, as this can look distracting on camera. However, plain white clothes can have a bouncing effect. V-collar shirts will usually support the appearance. Try to keep the outfit looking professional but also fun. A tank top or sleeveless t-shirt can be a pretty touch. Avoid jewelry, as this can look distracting.
- Wear make-up like everyday. Take more time and apply make-up slowly. Don't wear heavy make-up, as clumpy mascara or smudged lipstick can show up in portraits. Shiny eye shadow or lipstick can cause camera reflections and should be avoided.
- Avoid cutting or dyeing your hair before the shoot. Show the hairstyle as usual. Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the shoot to help keep your skin looking hydrated and healthy.
- You can pay a professional to take your portrait. But this can be expensive, and there's no guarantee you'll like the photos. Consider asking a friend who has a good camera to help shoot some good-looking photos. Visit your local printer to print the photos.
Step 2. Prepare a resume
A resume that will highlight your acting and performing experience can be useful. Disney recommends that you create a resume on one page. They also mention that lack of experience is okay. Most of your training and learning will come after you have been accepted.
- An actor's resume is somewhat different from a standard resume. But as with a regular resume, write a list of basic contact information such as your name, phone number, and address.
- You should write down a list of your particular performing skills. For example, if you've had professional vocal training, that's something to include.
- You should write down a list of any shows you've been to, and include the times, locations, and roles you've played.
- Some actresses write down their size, height, and weight on their resume. Since Disney has specific body size requirements, this could be useful information if included.
- Bring a copy of your resume to the audition location. Keep it in a folder to keep it tidy.
Step 3. Sign up for an audition
You can find a list of auditions on the Disney audition website. Look for an audition for “Disneyland Female Character Lookalike” in your area. When you click the link, the requirements for the role will appear. As long as you meet the requirements, you can apply for the audition online.
Step 4. Prepare to audition
Disney Princesses don't speak during auditions. You will imitate Disney characters and use gestures to communicate. The selection process will be based on coordination, attitude, and movement.
- Practice your smile. Disney Princesses have to smile often at work, so take the time to practice smiling in the mirror.
- Videotaping yourself moving and then learning your posture can be helpful. You can compare your moves with the princess scene you are playing.
- You don't have to come to the audition location wearing a costume. Disney recommends that you come to the audition location wearing comfortable clothes because you will be asked to perform a specific set of moves. Choose clothing that allows you to move easily when preparing your audition outfit.
- Get a good night's sleep the night before your audition to keep you energized in the morning.
Step 5. Attend an audition
When you arrive at the audition location, there will always be a cast member present to help you re-register. They will note your name, time of arrival, then you need to give them a portrait and resume.
- Time is very important to the Disney company. You should schedule to arrive at least 15 minutes before your audition time.
- The audition room can be intimidating but try to stay calm when entering it. The Disney director will introduce himself. Then, you will be given some instructions and asked to appear.
- All Disney auditions are closed. You may not invite family members or into the audition room with you.
Part 3 of 3: Continuing Your Career
Step 1. Take the training
If you're selected as a Disney princess, you'll go through a five-day training process. You will be given one character and analyze any films that involve that character. By the end of your training period, you should be able to successfully imitate the temperament, voice, and other aspects of your character.
Step 2. Follow the Disney rules
Disney has various rules that princesses have to follow. Breaking any rules may result in you being fired from your job.
- You are not allowed to talk about the characters you play for Disney. You can't post anything about your character on social media. This is a very strict rule so make sure you follow it carefully.
- When playing a Disney princess, you must not mention anything outside the Disney world. For example, you shouldn't talk about TV series on Cartoon Network when you play Mulan.
Step 3. Understand the limits of your liability
If you decide to become a Disney princess, this commitment will last at least a year. While this job may seem like a lot of fun, it can be confusing at times. For some roles, you'll be working outdoors all day and will have to learn to endure very hot and very cold temperatures while wearing a costume. Make sure you are willing to remain a Disney princess for at least a year before signing.
Step 4. Get ready to improvise
As a Disney princess, you have to play the character all day long. Sometimes, you have to answer questions from fans. Make sure you can think of an answer spontaneously. For example, if you play Ariel, a child might ask where Flounder is. Be prepared to respond with an answer like, "Flounder is playing with Sebastian at sea today."
Step 5. Be prepared for uncomfortable situations
Many former Disney princesses admit that the older men at Disney theme parks often approach them. Some guys may ask you when you're done, give you your phone number, or be rude. Tell your supervisor if someone has gotten out of control.
