Coconut rice is a simple, flavorful dish that goes well with curries, fried foods, chicken or beef. In fact, almost any protein or vegetable can be paired with this coconut flavored rice. To know how to make one, follow these steps.
Ingredients
Using the Pot
- 2 cups basmati rice (famous rice from India)
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 3 glasses of water
- 1 tsp. sea salt
Using the Rice Cooker
- 2 cups Thai jasmine flavored white rice
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 2 glasses of water
- 1 tbsp. salt
- 1 tbsp. dry grated coconut, sweet
Step
Method 1 of 2: Using the Pot
Step 1. Put the rice in a sieve or sieve
Place 2 cups of basmati rice in a colander or sieve and rinse the rice under cold running water until the water is clean. Make sure the rice doesn't actually fall through the sieve. You can place a colander over the bowl to catch the falling rice.
Step 2. Dry the rice
When done, add to the saucepan 1 cup coconut milk, 3 cups water, and 1 tablespoon sea salt.
Step 3. Bring the mixture to a boil
Stir occasionally to keep the rice from clumping.
Step 4. Reduce the heat and let the rice simmer for about 10-12 minutes
If the water is absorbed very quickly and the rice is still tough, add a little water to the mixture and stir constantly to make it smoother.
Step 5. Serve
Serve the rice alone, or serve it with beef, chicken, or mixed vegetables.
Method 2 of 2: Using a Rice Cooker
Step 1. Put the rice in the rice cooker
Place 2 cups of Thai jasmine-flavored white rice in the rice cooker.
Step 2. Add other ingredients
Add 2 cups of water, 1 cup of coconut milk, and 1 tbsp. dry grated coconut into the rice cooker. Stir the ingredients together with a plastic spoon until all the ingredients are thoroughly mixed and have a coconut flavor, and to keep the rice from sticking.
Step 3. Close the rice cooker and set it to cook
Step 4. Once the cooker is in "warm" mode, cook the rice again for another 10-15 minutes
This depends on how long it takes for the ingredients in the cooker to cook.
Step 5. Gently pat the rice
When done, lightly pat the rice with a cooking spoon to make it softer and tastier.
Step 6. Serve
Enjoy this rice alone or with chicken, vegetables, or beef. Can also be served with shrimp, scallops, or other delicious seafood.
