Method 1 of 5: Making Easy Barbecue Sauce in the Microwave
This is great if you want a quick and easy sauce to make..
Step 1. Place the butter, garlic and onions in a microwave-safe glass bowl
Place in the microwave and cook on high heat for 2-3 minutes until the butter is melted and the onions and garlic are soft.
Step 2. Add the rest of the ingredients
Add the sauce, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, paprika, chili powder, salt and pepper. Stir well.
Step 3. Microwave on high heat for 7 minutes
Remember to stir the sauce once or twice during cooking to ensure even cooking. The sauce is done once it is hot and thick.
You can also cook barbecue sauce by heating it in a double boiler. All you have to do is boil water in a pot of water and place a glass bowl of sauce on it
Step 4. Stir well
Remove the sauce from the microwave, being careful when handling the hot bowl. Stir the sauce thoroughly with a fork. If you want to get rid of the onion chunks, you can puree the sauce with a little water in a blender or food processor.
Step 5. Serve or save
You can serve the sauce right away, use it in your favorite recipes, or store it in a glass jar in the refrigerator.
Method 2 of 5: Classic Barbecue Sauce
Using this method and recipe for making barbecue sauce on the stove top can avoid many of the preservatives and synthetic flavorings found in other barbecue sauces.
Step 1. Saute chopped onion and garlic
Heat vegetable oil in a non-reactive skillet and sauté onion and garlic until soft and slightly brown.
Step 2. Add spices, molasses and sugar
Add salt, chili powder, cumin, coriander, molasses and sugar to a saucepan and stir to mix well. Bring to a boil and cook for three minutes.
Step 3. Add the diced tomatoes and apple cider vinegar
Add four cans of diced tomatoes along with the vinegar. Stir well, and bring to a boil again.
Step 4. Simmer the sauce for 2-3 hours
Reduce the heat to low, then let it simmer over low heat, uncovered, for 2-3 hours. The barbecue sauce should be thicker and darker during heating.
Step 5. Add the final ingredients
Remove the skillet from the heat and add the white vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Step 6. Puree
Pour barbecue sauce into a blender, add at least two cups of boiled water (or more, depending on desired consistency) and blend until smooth. You can use this homemade barbecue sauce right away, or store it in a glass bottle in the refrigerator.

Step 1. Put all the ingredients in a blender or food processor
Place the mayonnaise, white wine vinegar, garlic, pepper, hot chocolate mustard, salt, sugar and horseradish sauce in a blender.

Puree in a blender for about a minute, or until the sauce is smooth. Alternatively, you can also mix the sauce by hand with a whisk or wooden spoon, although using this method will result in a more lumpy texture.
Step 3. Serve
The white barbecue sauce is now ready to use, no cooking required. Alabamas love to serve this sauce over fries and fried chicken, or use it as a delicious salad dressing.
Method 5 of 5: Presentation Ideas
Step 1. Make barbecue pork ribs
The pork ribs are absolutely delicious especially when smothered in the homemade barbecue sauce. All you need to do is coat the ribs heavily with sauce in the final hours of cooking, then serve them with sauce again when serving! Homemade coleslaw (sauerkraut) goes well with this dish. If you don't eat pork, you can replace it with lamb or beef ribs.
Step 2. Make the barbecue chicken
Homemade barbecue sauce makes a delicious marinade for chicken wings, breasts and legs. Simply place the chicken pieces in a plate or glass bowl and drizzle with plenty of sauce. Cover the container with plastic wrap and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight to allow the marinade to infuse. After that bake in the oven, on a regular grill, or barbecue grill.
Step 3. Make a barbecue sloppy joe
Homemade barbecue sauce can be used to spice up a sloppy joe or regular burger sandwich, and take this fast food to a new level. Simply add the sauce to the ground beef as it cooks, then serve it on a hamburger bun and add more sauce if desired.
Step 4. Make the barbecue pizza
You can add a little different flavor to your homemade pizza by substituting regular tomato sauce for barbecue sauce. Some great topping combos are shredded chicken breast, shallots, mozzarella cheese and chopped fresh celery.
Step 5. Add flavor
You can spice up the taste of your homemade barbecue sauce by adding one or two additional ingredients. For a spicy barbecue sauce, add a pinch of Tabasco and some diced jalapeno peppers. For smoked barbecue sauce, mix 1/2 teaspoon of liquid smoke per each cup of sauce. For a fruity barbecue sauce, add 1 cup chopped ripe mango, 1 cup mango juice and 2 tablespoons lime juice. The possibilities for making variations are endless!
