Step
Method 1 of 3: Making a Simple Cheese Omelette
Step 1. Crack the eggs into a bowl
To produce a soft omelette texture, use eggs that have been left at room temperature beforehand.
Step 2. Beat the eggs with a fork or other whisk until well blended and slightly foamy
If you like, you can add a little salt or pepper at this point.
- Add a little butter to the egg mixture to make it softer and smoother.
- If you want an omelette with a lighter texture but still soft, add a little water to the egg mixture. The moisture content can prevent the omelette from rising when cooked.
Step 3. Heat the butter in a skillet on medium heat
Rotate the pan until it is completely covered with melted butter. This will prevent the eggs from sticking to the pan as they cook.
If you don't have a frying pan, you can use non-stick Teflon
Step 4. Pour the beaten eggs into the pan
Again, turn the pan so that it is evenly coated with the beaten egg.
Step 5. Smooth the eggs using a spatula
When the eggs start to harden, scrape the edges of the eggs with a spatula. Lift the eggs slightly so the unheated liquid flows to the bottom of the pan.
Step 6. Add the grated cheese just before the omelette is fully cooked
When the omelette still looks a bit runny and the surface is still glossy, immediately sprinkle the cheese on top. Do not add cheese when the omelette is done, as the cooking process will continue after you fold the omelette. You certainly don't want to eat an overcooked and hard-textured omelette, right?
Add other ingredients such as chopped mushrooms, ham, or various spices to make your omelette even more delicious. Make sure the ingredients are cooked through before you use them (except the cheese and spices, of course). For other variations you can try, keep reading this article
Step 7. Fold the omelette
Step 8. Continue cooking until the omelette is completely cooked
When one side of the omelette is golden brown, turn off the stove. Use a spatula to transfer the omelette onto a plate.
Step 9. Garnish as desired and serve the omelette immediately
You can serve the omelette on its own, or garnish it first with a variety of herbs such as chopped parsley, oregano, basil, or scallions. You can also eat it accompanied by pieces of bacon.
Although omelettes are synonymous with breakfast menus, you can also eat them for lunch or even dinner
Method 2 of 3: Making Omelette Using the Oven
Step 1. Prep the oven, set at 190°C or 375°F
Omelettes are usually cooked by frying. But if you have to make it in large portions, baking it in the oven is the best way. If you cook one at a time, the omelettes that are already cooked will cool down while you're cooking the rest. Omelette is best when served warm, right?
Step 2. Prepare the pan
Choose a tin with a diameter of approximately 20 cm. It's good, choose a pan made of glass or ceramic. Spread some butter on the bottom and sides of the pan.
Step 3. Combine eggs and milk in a bowl
Break 10 eggs into a bowl, add 450 ml of milk. Beat the egg and milk solution until well blended.
Step 4. Chop the parsley
Take a few parsley stalks, finely chop.
Step 5. Using a sharp knife, dice the canned ham
If your ham is still raw, preheat it before using it. Just put the ham in the microwave and heat it for a few moments. Ham is ready to use
Step 6. Add the cheese, ham and parsley to the egg and milk solution
Stir until all ingredients are evenly mixed.
If you don't have or don't like Parmesan cheese, you can substitute Cheddar cheese instead of using parsley. Sprinkle with chopped scallions when the omelette is cooked
Step 7. Pour the batter into the pan
You can use a spoon or a spatula to spread the batter in the pan.
Step 8. Put the pan in the oven
Do not cover the pan or cover the surface with aluminum foil. Bake the omelette for about 45 minutes.
Step 9. Remove the omelette from the oven
If the surface of the omelette looks golden brown, it means the omelette is done. Use a knife to test the doneness of the omelette if you're still unsure. Insert a knife into the omelette, then pull it back. If there is no dough sticking to the blade, it means your omelette is done. Let the omelette rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Step 10. Serve the omelette
Cut the omelette' as desired, using a spatula to transfer it to a plate. To make the omelette look more colorful and tantalizing, sprinkle the chopped scallions on the surface just before serving.
Method 3 of 3: Adding Variety to the Omelette
Step 1. Vary your omelette
You can mix different types of cheese into an omelette. You can also enhance the taste by adding mushrooms, various spices, and ham. Make sure the ingredients you use are well-cooked before using (except the spices and cheese).
Step 2. Use a variety of different types of cheese
Experiment with different types of cheese, such as Feta or Parmesan cheese. Keep in mind, each type of cheese already has its own 'partner' which will taste better when combined. As:
- Feta cheese goes well with tomatoes, spinach, and broccoli.
- Parmesan cheese goes well with ham, onions and mushrooms.
- Cheddar cheese tastes great with just about anything, but tastes great when paired with bacon, ham and tomatoes.
Step 3. Add the ingredients to taste
Adding too many ingredients to the dough runs the risk of ruining the omelette's texture when turned over or folded. Just add at least two or three of your favorite ingredients to the mix (excluding eggs and seasonings).
Step 4. Make your omelette more colorful by adding tomatoes and scallions
Chop 1 tomato, mix well with tablespoon olive oil, 1 tablespoon Cheddar cheese, 3 basil leaves and 1 finely chopped scallion. Pour tbsp olive oil into the skillet, and fry your omelette as usual. When the omelette starts to harden, add the tomato mixture to the top. Fold in the omelette, continue cooking for about 30 seconds. Turn off the stove, serve while warm.
Step 5. Make a cheese and ham omelette
Mix the grated cheese with the ham pieces. Cook your omelette as usual, adding the cheese and ham mixture when the omelette has started to harden. Fold the omelette over, sprinkle with the ham slices just before serving.
Step 6. Add the mushroom pieces to the omelette
Pour 1 tbsp olive oil into the skillet, sauté a handful of mushrooms for 2-3 minutes, or until the mushrooms turn brown. Combine cooked mushrooms, 25g grated Cheddar cheese, and chopped parsley. Cook your omelette as usual, pouring in the cheese-parsley-and mushroom mixture as the omelette begins to harden. Fold the omelette, serve while warm.
Tips
- Don't be afraid to experiment! Mix various of your favorite ingredients into the egg mixture or sprinkle as a topping.
- Even if you're already using non-stick Teflon, you should still use butter for frying the omelette.
- Add cold water or butter to the beaten eggs to make the omelette softer.
- Make sure all additives are cooked before use.
Warning
- Do not put raw meat in the omelette, because the omelette cooking process is not too long. This prevents the omelette from being cooked while the meat is still undercooked.
- Make sure you cook the omelette until it is fully cooked. Raw eggs contain salmonella bacteria which are harmful to your health.
- Do not use rotten eggs. If the egg emits a foul odor or is slightly odd when cracked, do not use it.
- Make sure nothing burns when you cook!
