Have you ever had trouble finding the perfect hair color of a character to emulate? If you have a problem with synthetic wig color, this article can help you solve it.
Step
Step 1. Gather all the supplies you need
You can see a list of all the equipment below. COPIC inks are usually sold in craft stores because they are used by many artists. This product has a large selection of colors so you should be able to get the color you want. One bottle costs around IDR 80,000. Latex gloves can be purchased at pharmacies.
Step 2. Wear old clothes that can be soiled
Step 3. Work in an area that has good airflow, but is not too windy
Step 4. Spread the newsprint to cover the furniture (e.g. table, chair, sink, etc
) and the floor in your workplace.
Step 5. Set up your wig stand on a flat, stable, dry surface that has been covered with newspaper
Step 6. Place the wig on the stand
Step 7. Put on gloves and a mask
Step 8. Pour 5 ml of blue ink onto the plate
Step 9. Dip the flat edge of the sponge into the ink until it absorbs enough
The entire edge of the sponge should absorb the ink but not drip.
Step 10. Lift the wig hair about 5 cm wide starting directly at the root of the branch with the index and middle fingers of your non-dominant hand
Step 11. Hold only the top thin layer of hair
Work little by little.
Step 12. Think of your fingers as scissors that will cut your hair
This way, your two fingers will naturally align with your lips.
Step 13. Place the inked edge of the sponge at the roots of the hair above the section you are holding
Then, slowly slide the sponge and your fingers AROUND your body.
Step 14. Curl your wrists AWAY from your body when you reach the ends of your hair, and slowly bring your thumbs toward the floor while keeping your fingers in position
Step 15. Turn the back of your hand against your body, and use it as a support for the sponge to color your hair all the way to the ends
Step 16. Repeat the process until you have dyed the entire wig
Step 17. Pinch the unfinished part so it doesn't interfere with the part being worked on
Step 18. Rotate the wig stand to work on the undyed parts
This method is better than moving erratically to reach the part that hasn't been colored.
Step 19. Pour in more ink as needed
Don't let the ink in the plate dry too quickly.
Step 20. Take another clean sponge and a new plate
Step 21. Use dark blue ink to give the hair low lights
Apply a dark blue color to some of the lower layers of hair, or add lines to the bangs and sides of the hair.
Step 22. Give the wig some depth in dark blue so it doesn't look like plain colored plastic hair
Step 23. Use a dark blue color as needed
Step 24. Follow the same technique so that the wig is not over-colored
Step 25. Gently comb through the tangled or knotted hair on the wig after the paint has dried
The paint should dry quickly.
Step 26. Air the wig for 2-3 days
Thus, the smell of ink will disappear from the wig.
Step 27. Dispose of used materials according to your local regulations
Tips
- Work a little at a time with thin layers at a time so that the resulting color is even.
- The wig will be a little harder to the touch due to the ink. Don't panic because this is normal.
- Don't forget the color mixing rule. If your wig is bright yellow and you want to change it to blue, you'll need to change the color of the wig to a dark navy blue so you don't end up with a sea green color.
- To prevent color mixing contamination, prepare as many sponges as the number of colors used.
- Wash the wig manually after use using a shampoo to massage any wax or styling spray from the wig. Flush the wig with plenty of water to rinse off any remaining shampoo and pat it dry with a towel.
- The wig will also smell of ink, but only briefly. The smell of ink will disappear in 2-3 days while aerated.
- We recommend that you color the wig from scratch. For example, use white, pearl, silver, or platinum blonde wigs. These wigs will not contaminate new colors and you will get the ideal wig color that matches the color of the ink purchased.
- Bring your wig and test the ink color directly on the wig before buying ink. Do a test at the roots of the wig hair so that it is not visible. You can also cut a little hair from an inconspicuous part and take it to the store to test the paint color.
- When working with dyed wigs, learn how to create color depth with dark grays or colors that are a shade darker than the color used.
Warning
- Make sure your wig is clean of oil or other hair products as they will interfere with the coloring.
- If you must cut the wig, do so before dyeing.
- This process cannot be reversed. Do each step slowly and carefully.
- If you haven't styled your wig yet, do so after you've colored it.
- This article cannot be applied to wigs that are solid black or too dark that require color manipulation through adding color. You can't change the color of the wig to a lighter color than its original color.
- Wigs can stain when dry. This will depend on the plastic of your wig. So, be careful.
- COPIC ink is an alcohol based product so you shouldn't inhale the smell for too long. Always work in a well-ventilated area.
- If you accidentally stain your skin with ink, remove it with a nail polish remover and rinse with water.
- If you feel nauseous, stop working and contact a medical professional.
