This wikiHow teaches you how to attach a bot to a Discord channel on a computer.
Step
Step 1. Find the bot you want to install
There are various bots with different functions. If you don't know the specific bot you'd like to download, browse through one of the following lists of popular bots to see what options are available. Here is a list of some of the most popular bots:
Step 2. Install bots
Installation instructions are different for each bot, but generally you'll be asked to log into your Discord account, choose a server, and grant the bot permissions.
You must be a server administrator if you want to add bots
Step 3. Open Discord
If you have the Discord desktop application installed, you can find its icon in the “Windows” menu (PC) or in the “Applications” folder (Mac). If not, visit https://www.discordapp.com, then click “ Login ”.
Step 4. Select the server you want to install the bot on
The list of servers is displayed on the left side of the screen.
Step 5. Hover over the channel you want to add bot to
Two new icons will be displayed.
Step 6. Click the gear icon
It's next to the channel name. The “Channel Settings” window will open after that.
Step 7. Click Permissions
This option is the second option displayed on the left side of the screen.
Step 8. Click “+” next to “Roles/Members” option
A list of server users will be displayed.
Step 9. Click the bot name
You can find it under the “Members” section.
Step 10. Set permissions on bots
Click the check mark next to each permission you want to assign to the bot.
- The permissions available are different for each bot, but you can usually allow bots to “view” chats. Click the tick next to the “Read Messages” option to grant permission.
- You may not be able to change the “Read Messages” permission on the “general” channel.
- Channel permissions are prioritized so permissions on the server may not apply if they conflict.
Step 11. Click Save Changes
It's at the bottom of the window. Now the bot is active on the selected channel.
