This wikiHow teaches you how to use a kickstand to play Nintendo Switch in a portable setting. You can use the kickstand to play Nintendo Switch without the television by removing the Joy-con controller.

Step 1. Take the Nintendo Switch out of the dock
The dock is the device that charges the Switch and makes it playable on the television. To remove the Switch, grab its side, and slide it up until it pops out of the dock opening.
Step 2. Remove the joy-con controller
Joy-con controllers are attached to either side of the Nintendo Switch. To release the joy-con controller, press and hold the round button on the back of the joy-con controller next to the ZL and ZR buttons, then slide it up until it releases.
Step 3. Attach the joy-con strap
The joy-con strap is a thin plate with two buttons and a wrist strap. Find the opening at the bottom of the strap that extends from the gray label. This strap has a "+" and "-" icon at the top. Match the "+" or "-" icon on the strap with the "+" or "-" button on the joy-con controller and slide the strap on the track on the side of the controller to attach it to the joy-con.
To remove the joy-con controller, pull the gray label at the bottom of the strap and slide the strap off

to charge the Nintendo Switch.
The power button is the button with a circle icon containing a vertical line. It's at the top of the Nintendo Switch, next to the volume "+" and "-" buttons.
Step 5. Extend the kickstand
The kickstand is the thin strip on the back of the Nintendo Switch. This section opens from the bottom of the device. You can open it with your fingernail or something thin and hard. Drag until you hear a click.
Step 6. Place the Nintendo Switch on a solid surface
While the kickstand is open, place the Nintendo Switch on a solid surface such as a table. Hold the joy-con in each hand and enjoy playing.
